Default How many times can a PCM be flashed?

Is there a limit to the number of times you can change back and forth between different maps.

Thanks in advance.

SCT states there is no limit that has been found yet for the ammount of flashed a PCM can take, they said they have flashed the same ECU hundreds of times with no ill effects.

Flash until you feel you can flash no more... Then keep going

Technically, the ECU does have a write limit as does all flash memory based electronics, but its somewhere in the 10-100,000 write cycles so you'll most likely never see it die.

This is very true, but like you said, most people will likely never see it.

Most people will never have to worry about rewrite limits to the number of times you can flash the stock computer, but there are a couple things to be very careful of and more likely to kill a PCM. The NGC doesn't seem to be as strict as some Fords, but if you're flashing and the battery voltage drops below a certain limit sometimes the computer will shut down. If that occurs mid flash you'll have a nice new paperweight in most cases. This is especially important to be careful of since many people are still on the stock battery and they're starting to get up in age. SCT usually recommends connecting a battery charger to the car during flashes but most people don't do that.

The other thing to look out for is the cable connection between the XCal2 and the OBD-II port. If it comes disconnected during mid-flash it may toast the PCM and I don't want to test that out. I've noted on a few SRT-4's the stock connector under the dash doesn't make the best connection and if you move a scan tool cable around while connected you can drop the connection to the vehicle, so be cautious of kicking of moving it during flashing.

Pishshsh, I hook them up to a 9 volt battery when flashing. Typical over cautious BlackBird. You have to get out and get to L I V I N.

Seriously though, don't do that.
