So i got a ticket for having no mufflers on my car which our cars do not come from the factory with. I took in diagrams from the owners manual and from dodge stating that. the hearing officer looked over the papers and then had to look over them again with the prosecutor and they went over utah state and city laws. utah law states that your car must have a muffler or other noise restricting devices (which our cars do resinators and the turbo can be qualified as a muffler) but then it is up to the officer to determine if the car is to "loud" or not. and ultimately if he wants to give you a ticket for not having any mufflers he can do so because utah law can override DOT standards. heres where it gets tricky state law prohibits any aftermarket parts on your exhaust so even if they think that your car is to "loud" and you get an aftermarket muffler on they can site you for that also. the whole thing is bullshit but just so all of you know even if your not doing anything at all driving an srt in utah can get you a ticket.
Were did you get pulled over at?.. and i got one in slc but i was stright piped and since it was my first offense it was 25 bucks second one is 150 that blows i was gonna fight it but i knew either way i would of lost so i just paid it. So really how loud is it?
Typical cop bein a dick... you think he might actually have other things to do like stop a murder or drug dealer, but a ticket for no muffler is retarded.

if there is always someone giving their .02 cents and you give a person a penny for their thoughts where does the other penny go?
There are passangers and than there are drivers....... than there are SRT drivers who fly by them at 150
the same exact thing happened to me 2 weeks ago and i went to the prosecuting attorney and showed her the paper saying it doesnt have a "conventional muffler" but it has the resonator, i also took my safety inspection book saying
"NOTE: After Market Muffler Devices: (UCA 41-6a-1626(b)) Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler or other effective noise suppression system in good working order and in constant operation. A person may not use a muffler cut-out, bypass, or similar device. Excessive or unusual noise is prohibited. (Additional noise ordinances may be enforced by city and/or county.)"
I'm a safety inspector and I manage a shop in farr west (where everybody has a diesel) and they always run glass packs or the bullet style mufflers, so i've personally talked with uhp several times and as long as they supress the noise its valid. Plus they always get technical so if you look up the definition of a muffler all i says is a sound suppressing device thats riveted or something. as long as youre not super loud you should be fine, I also heard if they wanna get you for too loud they have to have a decibel meter. hope this helps if you have any questions i can send you a link to the safety book.
