A lot of us have radar detectors so we should be good. Yeah, I wish it was sooner, too.
We had a 100 car poker run today in Tampa Bay and its surrounding areas. We had some good practice with curvy and up & down hilly roads, though nowhere as curvy and long as the Dragon. Our initial group involved 3 SRT-4s trying to keep up with a bunch of 350zs and one s2k through the curves. They were hauling ass. Good times!
I roll with a V1 myself. My detector didn't shutup that whole time, another reason I wasn't exactly pushing it.
Anyway...I'm about 80% in for this. Can we get a recap of the place(s) everyone is staying? I usually just hit the Microtel in Robbinsville.
I've heard there's a good bbq place on the sweetwater side (other side of the dragon). I've only been on the skyway a couple of times. The view is great from there but man I'd hate to break down lol there's literally NOTHING there. IIRC it's about a 1.5-2 hr drive from the dragon down the skyway and back into the Sweetwater area. Also unless something has changed or there is another way to get to the Skyway the road to get there is gravel for a mile or two..
sweetwater does have a pretty good places to eat when u get off the skyway. The Beach has the good bbq sandwiches from what i hear. and as far as the gravel road im unsure, they redid the road recently that takes u to the skyway and it was half gravel and half shitty roads. it's better now
lol..my radar detector is little different...it needs no power outlet. it's more of a deterent than a detector.
Well...as per my previous post. Last time I brought the skittle up there I left the Dragon with a 48mph ticket, even though I was going nowhere near that fast (not that it's an exactly tire-scorching speed). True, I might have gone a few over on the downhill sections, but good grief... I'm usually an annoyingly slow bastard; like a few under the speed limit slow. That THP tr00per just had beef with the blue Neon ;-(
EDIT: Oh yeah, the reason I posted today... Too bad this thing isn't until June. I've got the itch to go right now; which is usually how I roll up there.
Hey Bruce, I still remember you telling me at the 06 or 07 Memorial Day meet about your trip there with the bikes and how impressed they were with the SRT. Ever since then, I've wanted to go
For those of you who have GPS devices, do they work well in the area, or do the mountains block signals often? I just bought an entry level TomTom that works well so far.
Since the GPS devices work off of satellites, they work fine. However...cell service is non-existent. There is one spot at the overlook where, if you stand in just the right spot, you can get maybe 1-antenna bars-worth of a signal. The store/restraunt.hotel at deals gap opens for the season this weekend...today as a matter of fact. Anyone up for a run tomorrow?

This far out, it's too hard to say definitely. I am leaning that direction though...
On another note, have any ideas where to get a set of the StopTech's? Every vendor I've contacted is unresponsive.

GPS works ok up there. Occasionally experience a little drift when driving past side-x-side sheer mountain faces. That's very seldom however...
