Default I need Help..

I couldnt think of a title to describe what i needed help on... But it is boost leak related.

Alright.. So Ive checked for boost leaks.. Ive done it for awhile now. Well... I've been telling myself that i need to lately.. Because my car is boosting lower than it should, [I have stage 2 w/ toys]. I dont think ive spiked above 16 lately. And that was on a warmer day. Yesterday it was in the 60's... in 3rd i think i would boost up to 10 quick.. slowly climb to like 13/14.. and then start to drop [i wasnt able to look at my boost gauge at redline. So... thats my problem... I just figured it was a boost leak.

So, today... I check for boost leaks... And i get a hissing noise from the valve cover/sparkplug area. Its always seem to have done this... and i have no clue what it is. Seems louder right now from the last time that i can remember. Well, having someone read my guage off to me says it slows down alot at 9psi. And then at like 15psi i had my tester blow off. Now, I dont hear anything from the IC pipes, and i tighten the clamp behind the turbo...

I need suggestions on what to do. I did a search, to much useless boostleak crap came up.

Oh, and could needing to change the oil be a cause for low boost?

What i really want to know is what the hissing noise is.

Thanks,

Parker

Alright.. So it didnt fix it totally... Im still not boosting what i think i should be. It was warm last week.. near 80's... And i didnt see it boost past 16. It spikes 16 and the falls off to liek 13 or 12. I just think it should be boosting more...

Does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be? I need help..

I have stage 2 w/o toys and i boost at 17-19 depending on weather. Is the leak you are getting near the valve cover at the pcv valve??? I know that is a common leak unless you have a check valve of some sort in place. I had a leak near the valve cover but it was i a place i didn't expect. It was coming from the temperature sensor mounted on the right side of the head. put some gasket maker and problem was fixed. What are you holding on the vacuum side when in idle??? I hold 18-19 psi while in idle. I think you should do another leak test but at a higher psi level. You will be amazed what leaks you didn't have. I know its a pain the ass to do a boost leak test, but in the end its worth what you get.

Yea, i finally got some response in another thread i made in S&P's vendor section.

I sit about 20psi on idle. Im nearly -1 psi off. Ill have to check thevalves and such... Im going to do another test today... Some think it might be the gasket. The thing i worry about when doing a boost leak test at high pressure.. is the tester blowing off... had it happen like twice... scares the shit out of me when it happens too.. lol.

Are you doing the boost leak test with the car warm? That will help sometimes with the leak at the oil cap. Also it helps alot to have a check valve installed inline with the pcv valve. Do you have t bolt clamps on the tester? That will help also to get a better grip on the turbo.

Nope.. no T clamps.. And sometimes the car is warm.. sometimes it isnt.. Today it is.. but i havent done a test today.

This may be a dumb question.. whats a check valve?

I had it blow off once. And yes it scared the shit out of me . Pretty cool how the turbo winds down though. I just tighten the hell out of the clamp. Draw back of this is i will be buying a new coupling after about two more test. I pressurize my about 25-30 psi to find all the leaks you don't get at 15-19 psi.

As far as the check valve. This is suppose to stop your valve cover from being pressurized while boosting. I heard that pressurizing your valve cover is bad. PtPerformance makes a check valve and so does BWoody Performance. Both are vendors here.

Check out pt performance website. That's where I got my check valve. Made a big difference. I think I picked up a pound of boost and it is one less leak to worry about. It is not really cheap but it does make a difference. Some have cheaper versions but they do not work as good.

Yea, i dunno if thats where my leak is though.. seems like it would come from just that one spot..

Its something i will look into buying in the future.. But i cant afford it right now.. unless i know for sure thats what the problem is.

Definately get the checkvalve once you figure out what the problem is. I have had the PTP checkvalve for over a year now and it works great. That with a catch can, and you are set. Without those 2 items, there is going to be tons of oil in your intercooler pipe on the driver's side.
Good luck with finding the problem.

Did you cap off the black line that is running to the airbox? The Red line can be capped as well.
