Default To be Soldier... wish me luck

Got back from testing today, i scored pretty well was very pleased with my score went from a 34 (practice to a 51 (real deal) and wanted a 50 or better. (50 or better pretty much promises you alot of decent job opportunities)

Want to go in for Heli mechanics, just needed to score pretty good on mechanics section of the test to get the good jobs. The goal is to become officer and fly them one day.... So after testing i was nervous to see my score, my recruiter said WOW when he opend the paper... and was pleased with a 51... than he looked at my mechanics score.... was his face..... HOLLY shit dude! i was like what did i do on mechanics?!!?!? i maxed out the mechanics test i was the first to do so in his whole time recruiting.. He never saw anyone ace the mechanics so was pretty happy... And that leaves me open to pretty much the best mechanics jobs they have.. Which will get me closer to flying one day

O yea and one of the questions was " What runs a turbocharger?" That was my shit!

So pretty excited to start my military career. Been laid off for almost a year, and really lookin forward to doing something with my life. I encourage anyone, if your at a dead end job.... laid off... not doing anything with your life... And or want to just better your self, and start a nice career, just go down and talk to a recruiter, with ANY branch, they have ALOT of opportunities for you, and a BRIGHT future.

Very excited to serve my country, and of course get free ride through flight school Ill be on the forums till january- febuary ship out around that time for basic.

Anyone else in the service in the mid-a area?

ahhh...i remember back when i was so excited about going in. haha. congrats chief. you wont regret this decision. are you gonna be reserve or active? i spent 9 years in the marines. it was a lot of fun. coincidentally, i also maxxed out my mech, elect, and gt on the asvab. i couldn't tell you the questions though, it was a hundred years ago. and it was like like a million questions long. don't hesitate to pm me if you have any questions about anything, from deployments to service related benefits to VA issues.

Congratulations and thank you for volunteering! I've been active duty Army for 18 years now. Personally, the Army was the best decision I ever made. God knows it ain't always shits and giggles, but the people you meet, the friends you make, and the crazy stuff you will see and do, makes it all worth it. Here's a bit of advice--even if you do become an officer--NEVER forget what you learn from your sergeants. ALWAYS respect their experience (as you are sure to learn). Though some of them won't be worth a shit... (as you will definitely learn!) Take the good character traits they exhibit and give it to the Soldiers you will lead one day. Even the worse ones will teach you something. Good luck and Godspeed!

Corrected

Not to mention the radar signature of a mosquito, the ability to fly backwards, and a near 200 mph top speed!

LOL A friend of mine from Basic and AIT (WAY back when!) became a Warrant Officer and now flies the Apache. Great guy, too! Farkin' BADASS aircraft! We squared off against a couple of AH-64D Longbows during training once... We didn't stand a chance. They were killing us from 8 kilometers out. Couldn't see or hear the bastards!

The FLIR system on those things is amazing. They can really reach out and touch you. They don't even hold a candle to the Marine Corps new AH1 Cobra Zulu though. The Zulu is the finest attack helicopter ever developed.
