GETTING TO KNOW THE DDS3 v8

As water injection is playing a more and more important role in power tuning, there is more need to
have a "fail-safe" mechanism in place to detect the presence of water, thus preventing the engine
from damaging itself through excess heat causeing the onset of detonation. DDS3 water flow
monitoring system is designed to meet this criteria,

The latest DDS3 v8 hardware update allows the unit to work with virtually any water injection system
on the market. The 52mm Dash Gauge can be configured to detect a very wide flow range thanks
to the revised flow sensor translation software, supplying data to a high intensity 8-segment led
Bargraph display. The turbine flow sensor has also undergone a major mechanical enhancement to
increase its flow range. Extending the flow up from 450 to 1000 cc/min is only a few clicks on the
Sensor Calibration (CS) trimmer.

Failsafe detection circuitry has also been upgraded, it can now read Fuel injector duty cycle as well
as MAP sensor. This new feature allows the DDS3 to be integrated with many other non-Aquamist
water injection systems on the market seamlessly, All materials used are still 100% Methanol and
Ethanol compatible.

The complete kit comes with a water level sensor, a signal conditioning junction box, a turbine flow
sensor and a industry standard 52mm dash gauge. The gauge is backlit, automatic dimming for night
driving. The gauge is now so well equipped that one can build a complete single stage water
injection system (to be followed) by just adding a water pump, a relay and a spraying nozzle, with absolute
safety as standard.

could you go into the benefits of this a little more?

Pit Viper,

There are much more to come, it takes some time to convert a double column text format from the user manual to fit the forum post (with text wrapped around an image). It is not difficult but very time consumming.

The system can naturally read flow from any WAI systems. In order to confirm a flow fault, the system need to know when the flow is suppose to be there.

The DDS3 is equipped with inputs to trigger the failsafe circuitry. For example, if a WI system is set to inject water at a given boost, the DDS3 will look out for water flow at the particular manifold pressure. This is done via a map sensor output voltage level.

Other signals such as FIDC (PWM) can be used to trigger the DDS3's failsafe circuitry to look for water flow. PWM trigger input can also be use to detect signals from an non-aquamist progressive pump speed WI system.

Most progressive pump speed system sends a series of variable width pulses to control the pump speed. If the pump fails on an Progressive WI system, the DDS3 see a PWM signal, but no water flow, it flags a fault. This method can also be used to detect a clogged nozzle (under range), or severed/leaky delivery hose (over-range).

Default single stage WI system with failsafe

Section 3 of the DDS3 v8 drawing (post #2) shows how the DDS3 can be used to construct a single stage water injection system wirth only a few parts, possibly obtainable in most home depot stores for less than 100 dollars (not including DDS3v8).

The shopping list:

1) A 60psi diaphragm water pump: from $45.00 click here
2) A nozzle: from $10
3) Inline filter/fitting hose/relay etc 25 dollars
4) a 1-bar check valve: from 18 dollars
5) solenoid valve option (in place of check valve).

I believe a single point ready made system will cost ~$300 without any failsafe. The above system can be built around $375.

There is also a simple upgrading path to a more complensive system from Aquamist in the future, if preferred - full system, compatibility due to the DDS3.

Please comment

wow, that is a nice system. Question, i already have a Coolingmist controller kit and i'm not getting rid of it. Would this failsafe system be able to adapt to my current setup or is it proprietary to aquamist systems? Thanks.

We have use the DDS3 on a few colingmist system already. The version 8 is a simple interface, no extra component is needed.

You are referring to a vari-cool controller?
