Dyno testing for AGP kits

Coming up in a few weeks (actual date TBA) there will be a cooperative effort from Form and Function Performance, AGP Turbo, and MAPerformance to test the effects of portwork and advanced ceramic coatings to AGP's turbo kits.

AGP Turbo is graciously loaning a few turbine housings, and manifolds for the testing. Thank you!

MAPerformance has stepped up and is providing the dyno sessions to make this test measurable. Thank you!

Form and Function Performance will provide the porting and coating for the test, along with the wrench time for the install/uninstall of all the manifolds in the testing process.

More details will come later but essentially this test will have a SRT-4 with AGP's cast manifold set up, and run three versions:

1) Unmodified (ie, no portwork or coatings)
2) Ported version (portwork on turbine housing and manifold)
3) Ported and coated with advanced ceramics (coating outside and inside manifold and turbine housing)

Each test will be have 3 dyno pulls, and at a minimum, afr's/hp-tq/and boost schedule will be shared. We may not be able to get EGT's on this but if we can, that will be shared as well.

We will be testing effects of the porting/coatings on spool, efficiency and overall performance. We know that if we take out too much material in the turbine housing, we effectively change the AR of the housing, but how much is enough to effect spool? We know that portwork will increase airflow QUALITY, but will it be at the cost of spool? What effect does the polishing on the exhaust parts have as well (thermal reflectivity)? The ceramic portion is just an added bonus test to confirm the manufacturer's claims, but the coating alone is supposed to be responsible for 2-6% increase in power by itself.

That is the rough outline at this point and is subject to change.

Any predicitions? Perhaps those that have had both ported and unported versions of various setups can post up their $.02. I know I have personally done agp, atp, custom, and mopar versions....

A BIG thank you again for all parties involved!

-Bob

****EDITED for Progress list****

-Receive turbine housings and manifolds from AGP Turbo- yes (4/24)
-Take initial measurements of all ports, cc all housings and manifolds - partial (4/25)
-Port two manifolds and turbine housings, coat one of each (form and functionalize )- to be completed by 5/30/08
-Dyno at MA Performance!!- 1st week of June
-Collect, analyze, and share all obtained data- Most likely by 6/6/08

I'll be honest, I'm actually happy I won't have to be swapping my kit multiple times.

I've had a hard time keeping a turbo on my car more than a week or two lately.

Wow, it's nice to see vendors working with each other instead of against each other. I'm sure the results will be anxiously awaited

Agreed. There has been too much bashing and hostility and I'm happy to be working with MAP and AGP on this. I have personally dyno'd at MAP and their place is great, and i have ordered hardpipes and a wga from AGP not to mention on every S3 manifold I port, I always recommend their S3 WGA as a 'must-have'. Both are great companies.

Timelines right now will most likely be in the 3-4 week range depedning on the host car, and when we get the manifolds to work on. Everyone will be posted!

I'm VERY interested to see the results. I have an AGP 50 trim kit sitting here waiting to be installed but I wanna get some work done to it first.

Just waiting for Ben at AGP to respond to a few emails and we should be good to start the ball rolling.
