i know i have been tuning for a while with the megasquirt, but i still dont have all the terminology down, so i have a question: what is duty cycle? is that the number in the box of the ve table? if not, what is it, and what is the number in the box of the ve table?

duty cycle is a percentage of how long your injectors stay open. pulse width says they stay open for xxx milliseconds, duty cycle says xxx milliseconds is yyy percent of the amount of time the injectors can stay open before they are open constantly.

in other words, there is a finite amount of time it takes for your injectors to open, close, and open again. your duty cycle tells you that your injectors are too small if you're firing them over 80% of the time.

I hope this helps. kinda hard for me to explain.

I don't know about the VE table. I haven't gotten that far. Neither of my MS cars are running or have ever started.

No, the numbers in the VE table are arbitrary numbers that are multiplied against the REQ_FUEL variable along with all the other "trims" to produce the final pulse width.

There's a really good explination in the megamanual on www.megasquirt.info
