the crank trigger weighs like nothing. best part about it, you can unbolt it . When i get my ms and harness i plan on using my spair engine harness for full plug and play. no splicing into the stock harness for me
hm.. im very interested in this unit as well im planning on getting one in about a month to a month and a half just need to find out mroe about getting it set up
I know a few guys running Megasquirt and Spark on their cars and they have completely eliminated the PCM's.
I am definitly interested in the, but I am one of those computer illiterate people so I don't see anyway I would be able to offer anything into the creation of this thing.
The one that can be bought from rs autosport $500+/- is that complete and ready to go with a lot of the features or is it a bare bones pre-assembled kit?
It's a megasquirt loaded with MSnS-E code. You can look at this website for all the "features". http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/. It also has the necessary hardware modifications to work with a wasted spark ignition system and read a hall-effect crank sensor. A regular megasquirt without these mods can only do fuel control.
However, the code that comes with the rs-autosport pre-built box will be the released version which does not have the NGC decoding stuff. Since its so new and hasn't been tested fully it's not part of the actual realease. You'd have to download the NGC firmware (linked in the original post in this thread) into the megasquirt for it to work. I'm sure once a few people get SRT's running on the megasquirt it will get added to the official release and then you could order a megasquirt from RS-autosport ready to go.

Okay well then I guess I will sit back and let the guys that know what the hell they're doing get everything going and then get the pre-built version.
flasing the new code to the ms is cake work, don't let that scare you away. It will never get any easier on the install as the wiring will always be there. Waiting will only help you get a few basemaps to work with.

Installing it (soldering) doesn't bother me. I installed my Emanage and E-01. I just have NO idea what you guys are talking about when you get technical. And I would much rather now that I can order one that has the features I want and get it, install it, and tune it.
I may even just buy the parts myself and assemble it, as long as there are some fairly detailed instructions to show me where and what to solder on the board.
They have some very detailed install notes on these. I had ordered my original MS from diyautotune and had no problems (other then a bad 555 chip which I picked a new one up from radiohack)
I believe building the megasquirt yourself at least once is a very good experience. It really helps you understand whats really happening inside the "magic box". There are lots of people that buy pre-built units then have a difficult time troubleshooting problems. They freak out when they have to take the case off and pull out a multi meter.
Check my original post. I added a link to a new zip file with the firmware and a default map.
Great!! I got busy this weekend but I'm gonna go pull mine out of the jeep tonight and try to get the hardware changes done before this weekend. I did all kinds of logging this weekend so I should be able to get it up and running if I skip the ISOC meet.
As far as a sticky in this forum, once we start getting solid info on the install and tuning, I'll sticky it.
