Someone needs to do the work on that part. I personally don't have an SRT to test with. I do know everything is configurable via software or you can actually change the bias resistor on the board to make it read properly.

I take it since the stock PCM is still in place it runs all the basics like the voltage regulator, guage cluster, and IAC motor for idle?

Thats the idea. I made a wiring diagram thats located on:

http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/setup-neon.html

Look in the "external wiring" section for 95-02 Neon. As you can see the external wiring is really very simple. It's actually not much more complex than the other "piggy back" systems. I keep the stock ecu to do all the boring stuff. The megasquirt only handles spark/fuel. It can also do boost control, idle, water injection, nitrous, etc. Being open source, you can do whatever you want. It's perfect for "geeks".

(although I must admit I was more interested in the nicer VEMS)... This is very tempting.

Personally I'd be looking at MS-2 before VEMS. Dunno if you've ever actually tried to read the manual for that thing its a nightmare. Also, the support base is very small. The megasquirt has one of the best support communities I've ever seen.

Any known bugs? I noticed in the last thread someone mentioned having a studdering problem. This still a defect?

Um, well, yeah. I just wrote the code and I don't have an SRT to test it on. The only guy doing the testing was borrowing a car from a friend. I need some "geeks" to build a megasquirt, load the code and get the trigger points worked out. The code its based on (029 series) is pretty solid but there's some newer versions out. However, we can't get the NGC code added to the released source tree until someone gets it running on a car and confirms the triggers are good.

So, if someone wants to do a full stand alone for < $500 and doesn't mind getting "geeky" then dive right in. Think of it like the AEM except you don't have to wait for someone else. You can be part of the development. 8)

If I had a clue, I'd consider it. I can do a lot mechanical, but I wouldn't trust myself alone with fuel/spark maps.

Now, if you know someone with good MS experience in Phoenix...

Hmmm.....

I'm at bit busy right now, but if noone else decides to give it a shot soon, I'll go through with it... At least to help work some of the ignition bugs out.

Gotta admit it would be *really* nice to see what would happen with a bit more RPM

i would love!!! to do this, but since my srt is my only car i cant have it down. so unfortunately im gonna have to wait until someone else steps up that has a spare car. i will prolly do what someone else already mentioned and get the fuel running first and then wire up the ignition. waitin for this code to be up and functional cause i want a 7k rev limit without spending 2k, as long as running my w.i or nitrous eventually

bump for the ngc love!

....on a side note can ms datalog timing so i can get a rough idea of the stock pcms timing curves before missing with it?

It will log the timing once IT (the megasquirt) is in control, not when the stock PCM is still controlling.

To get an idea fo your timing chart, here is what I suggest. Get a standard OBD-II datalogger and log a file of rpm and timing.

Optional for nerds:
Export all of the data into excel. Write an excel macro to parse out the timing data into the same data matrix that is used by the megasquirt (i believe this is a 12x12). Simply run the interpolation for each set of results, and average all of the hits on the cells. This will give you a *decent* idea of the stock timing chart.

Murray
*cough* otherwise.... if you have little to no concience find a friend with an AEM and "borrow" his map *cough*

MD folks, I have said it before and I will say it again. I will buy the MS and Provide the test mule. I just need help and an education. (I am an engineer so it shouldn't take too long on the education). I am in Greenbelt.

Bob,

definitely up for giving you a hand on it. I have the tuning cables and all here still, so it shouldn't be difficult. I'm just completely swamped up until after carlisle. That'll be 3 local cars running it to compare data to, mine, richie's and yours

Send me the code. I should be able to get my ms-n-s on the car this upcoming week. I'll be getting some base logs done so I can convert the fuel over asap and then work on the timing. Pm me and I'll send you an email address.

Is this code easily portable to MSII or would it require a large amount of work? I like the extra resolution on the afr and spark advance tables as well as the stepper IAC control on the MSII.

I was told by steve at RS that its not available for the MSII, so I imagine its not that easy to move over...
