So I got my SRT4 wired this nice long weekend, and when I went to fire her up, she cranked and never fired up. I think there is a major problem, because she doesn't keep cranking. It'll get like two or three spins and then it sounds like detonation. I don't know what it actually is.
I'm using a Super420A, NGC code that came with the unit(29q off the top of my head), and NGC msq that came with the unit. When I load that and put it on my JimStim with pin 6 on, it doesn't read the crank signal properly. It'll read 800 rpm tops and freak out or not read at all any higher than that. It won't constantly fire the LEDs like it would before I burn the msq. They only light up for that breif instance that it senses 800 rpm.
I'm kinda confussed as to which code versions and msqs I can use with an NGC crank. Also, which settings within that code should I look for to make sure that the msq will work on ngc?
I've tried different code/msq combinations and some either don't rev to/past 5000 rpm, or it totally freaks out above 900 rpm on my JimStim.
I don't think its my sim cause before I load an msq, it'll rev past 8000 no problem in MT.
I haven't tried starting my car without an msq because I don't know what I'm looking for to make sure its configured right for ngc.

Reason: not fixed
I'll check that too... but I think I have them both cause I tried to start it yesterday after I charged the battery, and almost blew off my leg!
What I mean by that is I don't have my exhaust completely bolted up. It ends at the downpipe. So when I went to start it, I had one leg out of the car, and it backfired out the DP! I felt the shockwave on my ankle and thought I died and blew up my house in the process!
I think I have them both, just at the wrong time, or the wrong amount.
I'm running rc750s at 42 psi, static. My 1:1 is boost refrenced.
You probably have the spark outputs backwards. If it backfires that usually means its firing 180 out of phase.
You mean I have 1-4 and 2-3 on the coil wired wrong, right?
Cause I don't remember seeing anything in MT that would allow me to retard the timing that far out. I did burn those "stock" ignition tables, and that helped... but it didn't start. I'll check my coil wiring.
ok... so I re-downloaded 2.881.s19, its ini file and the settings.ini from the MSII code page... but this time... I R.T.F.M...
and it worked.
Go figure... lol. So now I have an operable MSII. I was just about to box it up and mail it out tomorrow to be troubleshot.
So in conclusion, for those of you who have seen a blinking fuel LED on your stim w/MSII, that means you have to go into MT and set the controller type to MSII **in Megatune** (as well as mtconfig)... its not the same fault indication from MSI that means the burn wasn't done right.
Nevertheless... re-burning firmware does fix a lot of the processor problems with MSII.
I haven't checked the ignition outputs yet. Its been cold (and snowing) so I haven't been in a rush to go into the garage after work. But I will probably check it out before the weekend.
and damn she can't idle :/ Sounds like I have some HUGE lift cams in there. Its actually running stock cams.
Thanks for the help boost. You nailed it. While I was ohming out the connection, I saw on another diagram from RS that NGC and 2.4L motors need the ignition coil wired backwards. I had it wired normally.
Well now that this thread is coming to a close; let me ask two off topic questions that may not be answered here...
What can I do to help the idle? (probable answer: you can start by RTFM!)
and lastly,
I didn't disconnect the CPS or tach output from the stock ECU. I did disconnect the coil negative outputs from the stock ECU. What else possibly did I disconnect to make the stock dash tach stop working?
Naw... nobody else has this problem... cause I don't either. I have a different problem... lack of attention.
The tach works just fine. It wasn't deflecting as much as I thought it would for the way it was looping during idle. When I paid closer attention to its startup I noticed that it is working. I haven't driven it or even rev'd it yet because the idle sounds so horrible. I would just adjust the throttle stop... but its damn near impossible to adjust w/o removing the whole throttle body and spacer assembly.(60mm tb, btw)
ok... so I got it to idle well with the "stock" ignition table... but now I can't get it to turn over within a reasonable amount of tries. Every time I tried an MSQ that I would imagine would work, it just cranks... all day... until the battery is low.
does it start eventually after a lot of cranking? check your spark table. make sure at 0 vaccum its still at 10 degrees of timing. i had that problem where i had the timing go to a low number as soon as the car would pass cranking rpm and would go back to cranking
