will ANY serial port to usb adapter work?

i have seen the 1 that tex/distinctdev have posted, but my local stores dont carry it in stock, but i can get the 1 above...
will that work, or will it have issues "connecting"?

i have used the super cheapy cables they work fine
but you need to open the computer to connect with the key off and while the computer is trying to connect turn on the ignition "i dont know why, but ya gota do it that way"

that'll work just fine, i just installed mine and i also use a serial to usb cord.

any particular brand that you used?
my buddy works at best buy, and i can get the best buy brand for literally like 3-4 bucks...
just dont wana go thru the trouble of installing, then not being able to connect...

do you still use the cheap cables?
and the issue you stated above, is that only w/ the cheap adapters, or all?

Whatever one you can get will work just fine. Although the one I got was 20 bucks I don't see why yours wouldn't work. I can't remember the brand though.

Fry's is where I got mine from ^ 20 bucks was the cheapest I found though?

I bought a keyspan one for my 1st laptop, never used it.
ended up getting another laptop w/serial port in it.
