Why does the EMS take so long to allow the car to turn over? When i turn my car on it seriously takes 3 or more seconds before it'll crank over? It's not a big deal at all, just wondering if there is a way to fix that. If I put the key in and turn it to start instantly it does nothing for a few seconds and then it starts turning over and the fuel pump turns on. Thanx guys.
It is not fuel related, it is because the AEM needs some time to read inputs and self-configue. From what I understand, the AEM EMS uses a series of relays (or solid state switches) to intercept and reroute signals from the EMS to the PCM for control. It lets all of the signals through to the PCM except the one it needs to control injectors, coils firing, timing advance/retard, etc..
My Electromotive TEC3r turns over instantly, but it needs about 3 revolutions of the crank trigger wheel to verify the correct timing. As soon as you turn the key to on (not start), the fuel pump automatically primes for 8 second (adjustable). If you turn the key to start, it wil forego the 8 second prime and just turn on the fuel pump and turn over.
And the 02 sensor to warm up. If I'm not mistaken. It's mostly 02 sensor driven after start up isn't it. Reads parameters off 02 readout and compensates accordingly. I turn the key, listen for the fuel pump to prime, then fire it up. Then wait till wideband reads 02 readings and go.
