Is there a way with the aem to be able to log without having the laptop in your car... like a jump drive for instance....
yes there is an internal memory set up to log, you will need to set the parameters and what starts and stops it but this log is (or can be) the fastest and most accurate and should be used on the dyno or for pushing the limits. its just not practical for street tuning cause the info takes a couple minutes to down load
*****this has a limited amount of memory*************
setup< internal log
Ok yeah i knew about the internal log... Just didnt want to have to download that whole thing after every pass... but i guess that is the only way..
yea its a pain in the ass and slow to download I finally got a new lap top for tuning (my last one was 9 years old) I got an Acer aspire and this thing is tiny I absolutly love it in the car its very easy to keep in the paseger seat and press the F6 button when i want to log
I think jay needs to design a drive/box that hooks up to the obd cable that you can flip a switch on the dash or outside the car on the rear that automatically starts storing data...
similiar to what the prostock and top fuel guys use but have it compatable with the aem...
and the the drive would be removeable and plug into the laptop and download the run on your aem program

The purpose of ignition advance is to account for the lag time following spark ignition for combustion pressure to peak at 15 degrees AFTER TOP DEAD CENTER. A little fyi !
all i hear is blah blah blah wtf are you guys talking about lol
if you want an external log the laptop has to be connected unless you have a carputer thats always on write a script that will start logging when you hit an input and save it to a jump drive when you are done along with a time stamp to know when you did it. so yeah sounds expensive.... if you want internal logs then yes you can have a switch just like the prostock guys but you will still have to query the ecu and download the log data which is nonetheless time consuming
the moral of this story is when it comes to running your car and logging you must be connected to it and laziness kills(engines that is)

the reason i am asking is the 1/4 mile tracks around here wont let you run with a laptop in your car... so i was trying to find away to do away with that.... but i guess i will have to build a mount for one.. or reset the internal log after every pass...

do it like the rest of us do it.. make a run..while the car is cooling off download the log and view it....what makes you so special?
