i am having connecting to the ems with my lap top. here is the run down:
i have the ems with wide band. i followed the instructions and tried to connect to the ecu and it just says ecu offline.
when i open the aem pro the window opens and then another iwndow opens and asks you to connect or work offline. i click connect and then the ecu status window opens and it reads: (when i turn key on first and then hit connect)
loading serial communications library
intialising comms...
serial comms intialized
offline
then another window opens (connecting window)
it says querying ecu, and nothing happens.
there is also a red box at the bottom of the window that flashes ECU OFFLINE
i also tried hitting connect and then turning the key on and the ecu status window reads:
loading serial communications library
intialising comms...
serial comms intialized
offline
framing error
break error
parity error
and then the coonecting window comes up and says querying ecu and then nothing..........
i checked the cable between computer and obd connector it checks out to be good. i tried a friends computer and i did the same thing.
i also tried to unistall and reinstall the software on the my laptop and it did the same thing.
i almost forgot i checked to make that i had the right serial data port setup also.
let me know what you guys think and if any of you has had the same problem.
try this. no key in the ignition, connect the cable to the computer and obdII, open up aem pro software, it will try to connect and fail and it will tell you dont tune and drive etc click OK on that message, then it will say Quererying ECU or something to that effect with a progress bar. At that point but the key in and turn it on all the way without starting the car.

tried that. it did not tell me not to tune or drive or anyhting like that. it just went to querying ecu and keep on doing tthat even after i turned the key on. sorry. any other ideas guys?
It is the cable I had the same problem many others have as well. You need to check all wire connection in the cable. AEM chose a very poor vendor however they did say they were going to change vendors.
the cable sucks big hairy monkey nuts. get a paperclip and a ohm meter and make sure there is continuity between both ends of the cable. paperclip on the serial port and just the probe on the otehr end. if they do not connect, you have to take the ALDL plug apart and plug it back in. this happens all the time to mine, big time PITA!!!
if thats not the problem, i would check the fuse for your cigarette lighter. if thats blown it wont connect either (cig lighter and ALDL on same fuse).
if that still doesnt work call AEM technical support and see if henery can help 310.484.2322

yeah i read alot about the cable. i forgot to mention that the cable was the first thing i had checked. i will check the lighter fuse tomorrow. i guess i will have to call aem on wensday...... i'll keep you all posted.... thanks alot for all of the help.
i send the computer back to aem last wensday. the tech on the phone said to just send it back, they have not had problems like that before. they said they were going to check it out and let me know about it. hopefully it will be a quick turn around with this thing.
I'm having the same problem with my new AEM. Seems like there is a combination of what get's pluged in first, when the software is opened and when the key is turned on. I eventually got it working, but forgot the combination.

my cable was pooched one wire on the connector inside the OBD connector side fell out so I cut off the plug inside the plastic OBD casing and soldered them to the corresponding pins and havent had a problem yet.
