Default EMS beginners?

i will eventually have the cash to get an AEM EMS and id like to get one if its worth it. But i think that id be lost. It looks extremely complicated, i wouldnt know what to do or anything, if someone doesnt know alot about engines and how to tune them would it be a waste to get one? Or would i be able to take it to a shop and get them to master it? And in that sense, would it be any more useful than just going and getting a dyno tune? And whats the difference between the 2?

hard to answer your question but I will try

if you dont have GOOD knowledge of tuneing/engine theroy prior...stop and get a DSP with a canned tune

is the EMS difficult to use ...NO. is it difficult to learn...kinda

there is a definate learning curve and the terminology is cryptic, the best knowledge is held as "trade secrets" and rarley released to the public (but that is changeing). if you plan on useing the EMS and have a GREAT knowledge of tuneing and expert knowledge of the internal combustion engine you will do fine, if you dont have a few years of tuneing experience I would advise you to invest in a few books and to do some heavy research on the internet, drifting.com is working on some documenterys that deal with tuneing and useing the EMS, these would be a good idea also (they should take 2 years outa the learning curve)

its definatly the best tuneing device for the SRT-4 ever available BUT wont do a thing for ya with out the knowledge to back it up

start reading all threads in this section and read everything you can stomach from the aempower forums (you can also download the software)

the EMS is a tool just like a hammer, just because you have a good hammer dosnt mean you can build a house, its all about the knowledge. I started in dec of '07 and am only now getting a grasp on the software and function. that dosnt mean it will take you 2 years (there was little to no resources then) if you take the time to learn a couple months would do ya well

adding on to what nutz said, it really depends on how quickly you can pick up on things too. I have only had my AEM for about 6 months now and I feel that I am just now starting to get a very good understanding about the program.

If you have the money to spend on the AEM, and you plan on having your car for a while and plan on making a lot of upgrades, then I would get a AEM, if not, go cheaper and buy a SAFC or similar.

Like I said, if you have the patience and the time to sit down for a hour or so each day reading through the post on these forums in the AEM section to get a understanding on how the program works, it is very well worth it! But, you need a general understanding on how things work in a motor!

But, I guess Nutz really made the best statement possible:
