I am connecting with the current software just loaded onto the HD. I have a Serial to USB cable to conect. When I go to connect it says "ECU type not found" What is this about? Untill I can connnect I cant load my new map............ You think it is because of my Serial/USB cable? I thought that if it was this it wouldnt even register, it would just say cannot connect to ECU.
OK, so I try to connect again, and what happens......... my computer goes all blue screen of death, twice, and shuts down lol. Seeing as this laptop is 2 days old, i think its not the laptop lol.
It might be the cable, but im at a loss. I keep geting (untill the computer shuts down) ECU type not found............. like my EMS isnt supported by the latest version of the software?????? Anybody.....................

very very very very very common problem.
I recommend rebooting the computer with it not connected to the car at all.
Once its fully re-booted, plug in the cord. [make sure key is off]
Click on the aem software and when it pops up to say connect or work off-line, turn the key on [wait one second] and hit connect.
Repeat as needed exactly how I said. If it locks the computer up, just reboot or try a scandisk to fix any errors and try again.
The funny thing to me is that the piggyback FIC is usb, but the focking EMS is serial......Heelllllllo the 1990s called and wanted their connection back.
I have seen what Aaron describe works when I had the error you're getting.
Another add on to his a little, when you get the error click OK or close the connect screen. Turn the ignition key OFF, pause, then turn on (make sure key position 2), count to 20, use the connect option again in the software.
You are connecting to the OBD plug with black cable supplied with the EMS and are not using the white cable that can be used to extend it, right?
Its the OBDII port-----black cable supplied by AEM-------usb adapter----- usb port on the lop top, right?
When you go into the AEM pro software and you select "ECU" "Connection Port...." whats checked off and whats selected from the drop down?
ECU type not found? Where did you download the software from? I had the same problem when I copied the software and gave it to a friend. It ended up missing some files from it which wouldn't let him connect and gave the same error.
He ended up having to re-download it from AEM itself.
Make sure your AEM cord isnt loose inside. Another common problem.
YUP have had this happen several times to me as well.
Unless otherwise need to have it different for some reason..., undo/unclip the factory white ODBII connector from the dash frame and then connect the OBDII plug end of the AEM black cable to this, zip tie the two together so no loose connections here and then zip tie up out of the way and run the cable towards the pass side to the glove box.
I have no cover on my OBD2 connector cable so I know its connected, it even initializes, then gets to that damn error ECU Type not found. My cable is WHITE though, its the only one I recieved with my ECU, I have the 2nd EMS sold on the east coast, so its probably outdated, but my tuner just used the fucker.
I know its connecting because without the cable connected, I try and connect and it says unable to find ECU. I JUST downloaded the software from AMS website lol.

Try erasing the software TOTALLY and download it again from the AEM forums
I downloaded again, reloaded my adapter software and I got a connect. Just to make sure, to load a new file to the EMS, got to ECU, send new calibration, go to the log I want loaded, click, load, and close............Right?
So its working now?I ran into this same problem today..except the laptop I was using was only running windows vista and windows vista would not allow me to install the driver for the serial to usb cable. So then I got another laptop that was running windows xp and it did install the drier but it just wouldnt connect to the ECU.Tried numerous things, just like above and I got NOTHING.Also,I downloaded my software straight off the CD that came with my EMS!! Wtf... to Nemos tomorrow is where im going, lol.
