Default Boost Control Solenoid Question

I'm considering removing my AVC-r and letting my EMS control boost on its own now (mainly because i have a hell of a time getting the AVC-r set up to work correctly)

I've been doing some research and stumbled across this: Perrin Performance - Boost Control Solenoid

Apparently they say its superior to standard boost control solenoids in every way.

I've also found the AEM one, a "mac" one (which is supposed to be identicle to the AEM one), the stocker, and some GM one that alot of Supra guys are using.

Anyone have any input? Or should i just stick with the AVC-r?

How hard is it to tune boost with the EMS?

I think pretty much everyone who's worked with the AEM and the SRT-4 will tell you that the stock setup works fine. If you are going to buy one get the MAC valve as AEM just put a sticker on it (re-branded) and jacked the price through the roof (I can not recall a part or product that has been price jacked so high).

not that difficult. if i was to go at it again i would more than likely use the stock boost solenoid. right now i am running manual but had the GM solenoid on.

Does the stock solenoid have any problems holding 24+ PSI?

Will it work fine for an external wastegate?

i have had the stock solenoid hold almost 30 psi.the only thing with the stock solenoid is if you are a little aggressive with the proportional gain it can oscillate boost under heavy loads but considering it comes free with the car its pretty awesome lol

Semi related, Jay with my setup, external gate + Mopar blue plate = no cold side pipe with BOV........to use the base map to drive and to get tuned do I need to hook up the factory BOV solenoid. I have the wastegate hooked up stock with the exception of top port added in as per AEM user guide instructions for an external gate

The stock surge solenoid is not setup or wired by default in the AEM wiring, correct?

By the way still stuck on stupid little things without much free time to work on it so thats why I have not called you yet.

Yeah but since its origionally used for an internal gate, do you gotta put the vent into a different place? or just use the same 2 ports that the stock solenoid uses for the internal gate?

The stock and the AEM solenoids both work in the same manner. In the user guide theres another image describing the internal gate hookup and whether using the stock or AEM solenoid theres a vent.

On the SRT-4 basically the only difference in the hookup between internal and external is that the top port on the external gate gets T-eed into the green line.

Heres how I think it might be with trying to keep things close to stock but using an external gate. If someone sees something wrong post up what and why.

I can leave the tip in and hooked up, correct? After a lot of thought I'm trying to keep it so that its very easy (within reason) to unplug the EMS and re-hook up the stock PCM.

As I see it right now if I can do this the way I'm thinking I should only need to swap the UEGO wideband sensor out and re-install the O2 sensors to run without a problem, correct?

I checked the EMS manual and even though the TIP is not wired up in the AEM EMS as a defualt theres provisions for it. Would there be any reason or advantage in going a head and wiring it up anyway?

The BOV/surge solenoid is not wired up in the AEM EMS as a default as well, correct? If its not I'll need to do this when using the Mopar blue plate, correct? With an aftermarket cold side pipe with a BOV installed in that location I do not need to hook up the factory surge solenoid, correct?

One other question. Are you still just using the same positions on the solenoid? Like the bottom (furthest from the electrical connector) being the vent still?
