What's the most HP and torque pushed through a PT turbo with an auto trans?
Since the turbo PT cruisers are available with an auto trans, and use the same 41TE transmission, I thought you guys might know this...
What's the most power (HP and torque) anyone has pushed out of their turbo PT with an auto trans, without breaking the transmission?
Is there any way to beef up this transmission to handle more power?
I don't want to blow up my transmission, and trying to swap to a manual is out of the question, unfortunately the Mrs. can't drive a stick.

hey welcome, join the forum PTcrew.com. they are great there. From what i have heard they only hold about 240tq so it is stock power and s1 on them , if you check on ptcrew forum under the bible there is a tranny upgrade there. Suppose to be way better than stock only about 1k in parts. People hav eused for 1 year now i think and holding strong. I think DCR will come with one soon for that tranny.
I am buying one today for the wife also so i want a tranny done too
Yes, join PTCrew.com. That said, there used to be a Powerdemon trans available that at least 2 people I know of blew up. Of course, they were big turbo Cruisers. Powerdemon has since folded it's tent. Enter A&A Transmissions. AJ at A&A has an upgraded tranny available, beefier than the Powerdemon, he can be contacted through PTCrew. I don't know the exact specs on it, but there are people at the Crew who do. Also, there is a list of parts in the ModBible there, to do your own. This would be good up to +/- 300 - 350 hp/tq, give or take. So you would be good up to, say, a ported clipped stocker or SST (+ supporting mods) on the DIY list, and good to go for big turbo on the A&A transmission. Of course, at that point, axles would be in order as well......

Thanks for the quick replies guys. A Mexican Stratus owner out in CA on another forum suggested I contact AJ at A&A, I guess he sent his tranny to them, he gave me AJ's e-mail address.
Stock 41TE can only handle around 240 tq? I thought Stage 1 on the PT Cruiser put out 260 tq? That's what the Mopar website claims anyway, lol.
I will have to see what DCR has too... I know they have their racing AT, but it's $8k, and I don't have that much to spend on a transmission. I don't know what transmission they use for that, I just know it can't be the 41TE, since theirs is a 3 speed, and the 41TE is a 4 speed.
I'll check out PTCrew and see what info I can find over there, thanks for the link. ;-) This is all for my '04 Sebring LX. I have a bunch of parts from Hahn's PT Cruiser turbo kit (from before Chrysler produced the turbo version), and parts from their SRT-4 upgrade kit. I also had DCR modify an SRT-4 intake manifold to fit with my AT, and I've got a Boomba SRT-4 fuel rail, plus Stage 1 SRT-4 fuel injectors. The car's up on jack stands right now, and this weekend I'm starting the install. I've also got a set up SRT-4 pistons, rods, rings, etc. that need to go in, so I can handle some power. Oh yeah I have a Greddy eManage and Profec E01 laying around to be used with this too. Beefing up the transmission is the only thing I haven't taken care of. I want to hit about 400 HP and tq out of this eventually. ;-)
I'm very happy to hear that some of you PT Cruiser guys have taken this transmission beyond stock, 'cause that's what I need to do!

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what they are rated for, it matters when your's breaks, be it stock, or putting out 400 hp. I'm at above (barely) S1 levels now on a stock 41te Autostick, and doing well so far. But, I've heard of stock NA Cruisers eating their trannies, and they are only 162 tq stock, and exactly the same tranny (until late 2005 or so, when they switched the NA to the 40te, basically a weaker 41te) as mine, less the Autostick programming ...

Stock NA Cruiser = same power plant that's in my Sebring right now. Same engine, same transmission. That's what I'm adding a turbo to. I just finished reading some of what you're talking about over on PTCrew, heh. I've been running at slightly above stock for quite some time, not sure how far above, but I've done enough mods to gain a handfull of extra HP and tq, lol. The 20G turbo is going to push me way beyond stock obviously. It's the "when it breaks" that I'm trying to avoid. I don't want to be out driving one day and have my transmission crap out on me, then not have the money to fix it, 'cause I spent the money on something else. Right now I have some money available for beefing it up, if I beef it up and can get 3 to 5 years out of it with no problems, I'd be happy.
I took mine down larrys transmissions in corona, ca last thursday and I'm scheduled to pick it up at 4pm this afternoon. I went with the parts route...contact rob marshall at TCS and he'll hook you up. Parts alone is about $450, the TCS torque converter is another $440 so you're sitting on just over 900 including shipping. Jump on ebay and grab yourself a phantom grip lsd (904 Gold model) I got mine for 180 shipped brand new. The tranny shop quoted me 900 for install but then later on that day I found out the real damage I did...broke a couple planetaries and the input shaft. So now the total is 1194 from tranny shop, 900 for tranny parts, and 180 for lsd. Total is 2300 for a bulletproof tranny that'll hold plenty of power. I did all the damage to mine while I was on 228whp and 293ft/lbs torque on a non autostick 41te no frills and definitely no thrills! I'm aiming for 300+whp and 400+ft/lbs torque when the car's finished.

Hmm that sounds good... I was wanting to keep this tranny build to around $2k. Also getting the parts and having a local tranny shop do the work is exactly what I want (although I don't know which one out here in Montana is a good one). I don't feel comfortable taking my tranny out, shipping it off somewhere, and putting it back it, not to mention the added costs involved with that.
Hey Sebring, that was me. I was about to tell you about the post I made in 2gss on this. AJ told me that hes had two Powerdemon trannies blow up on some of his customers, and the one he builds is stronger than that.
well guys remember, You can prob make 270whp on a big turbo and about 230-240tq. Remember that small turbo ouput so much tq cuz of spool. I think i will install the Gt40 setup on wife PT and see how long it last @12psi then have Nemo build something for this thing
dsmlights... I'm putting a 20G on here, not planning on going big turbo... The last dyno sheet I saw from an SRT-4 running a 20G was something like 390 HP and 450 ft-lbs torque. I like my torque numbers being => than my HP numbers. ;-) I'm expecting the torque numbers to be => than my HP numbers with the 20G setup I'm putting together here. That seems to be pretty typical for the 20G, I could be wrong on that one though.
Thing is, there are no chasis dynos in the state of Montana, it'd be at least a days drive to another state for me to dyno this car when I get everything installed, so I may never know how much power I'm putting down. I have some software on my laptop that I can plug into my ODBII port to give me a good rough estimate though. ;-) Mostly I'll be driving this in the summer, and taking it to the drag strip about 2 hours away from here whenever I can. So I'll at least get time slips. ;-)
So you're going to see how long it lasts? Wouldn't it cost more to rebuild it stronger after it breaks, than to just have it built stronger to begin with? I've got a little over 40k miles on this transmission, as far as I know it's still in good shape, haven't had any problems with it. If it costs about the same to have a tranny built after it's blown, as it does when it's just fine... maybe I'll do that... then again like I said before, don't want to have it blown then not have the money around to fix it. :\
there is a tranny that is heading to DCR and he will be competitive with the tranny that aj will be making. the reason his 3 speed is so spendy is it holds 1400+whp the 41te will not be that strong we are hoping for an honest 4-450whp.

yep yep that is what we looking for, If Darrel dnt hurry up ill just have nemo Fab me something. But something that handles 450TQ will be more than enough to make 500-550 whp
