Question srt pt?

I want to install a SRT neon engine into our pt. Does anyone know of it being done or is it the same set up as the turbo PT? From what I understand the 2 engines are the same. Just need aliitle insight before dive into this project. Thanks everyone.

The PTGT is as close to an SRT-PT as you can get. I remember seeing pics of it in the SRT garages prior to release, so I know they had a hand in it. At the time, though, they were just thinking about the SRT-4, and I don't think they wanted to release two SRT-4's at once. Of course, with the success of the Neon, that spawned all the SRT vehicles we have now. Just seems that the PT got left in the cold. Oh well, at least we got S1 computers. We were supposed to have S2 released for us as well, but DCX punked out on that. The auto trannies would have all died horrible deaths anyway!

The PTGT motor is the sameas the SRT with the following exceptions (Mainly for packaging in the PT body shell):
Different intake manifold
Different I/C
Different I/C to TB Plumbing (Turbo to IC is the same)
Different TB (Basically 180 degree mirror image of SRT TB, but same size)
Different trans - Auto is a 41te autostick, stick is a Getrag. SRT has NVT trans.
Different axles
Different PCM.

As far as the guts of the motor, they are identical. The turbo and manifold are the same. They can be modded for just as much power, problem is, we've had a hard time with vendor support for upgraded trannies. That may be remedied now. You CAN NOT use SRT pcms with a PT and vice versa. The programming is different. If you are swapping a Turbo motor into an NA PT, you'll have problems with the wiring and the computer. If you want to swap in a GT computer, you'll need to get it flashed with the NA VIN. Not sure that can happen. May be easier to go EMS at that point. Most of the people who contemplated the swap in the past either decided to sell the NA and get a GT, or went with the Hahn kit for the NA. It's a very daunting swap, but, if you want to tackle it, good luck. I'm sure we'll all provide all the help we can....

thanks for deflating my baloon naw just kidding. thanks for the info. ive been getting a few replys on ptcrew.com but none with this much info. i really thought it would be pretty much a direct bolt in with a comp swap and a few mods. but ohh well, so much for that. thanks again.

I saw your post there. It is kind of deflating. Mechanincally, it is a bolt in, as long as you have the right PT specific pieces. But the PCM and wring differences are very daunting. You basically need to replace the entire wiring harness and sensor package. Or hack your original up like frankenstein. If you really want to boost an NA PT, check out Hahn Racecraft: http://www.hahnracecraft.com/auto/pt/pt.htm There are several PT's on the Crew who are running their setu with MUCH success. And it's 1000 times easier than the swap you were looking at. And once you get a taste of boost and decide to up it, building up the bottom end is just a matter of swapping out the right pistons, rods, etc, that you should be able to do, considering your response at the crew. Either way, good luck! and keep us all posted.

let me correct everyone before anyone starts getting any funny notions.....

the SRT4 was derived in large part from the PT turbo. The whole front suspension and engine bay was transplanted with a few notable changes from the PT GT to the Neon. The reason i said notable is because where the PT engine bay is short and tall the Neon engine bay is low and cramped. The Neon based SRT4 did get alot of dedicated touches and clearly benefited from being considerably lighter in weight than the PT/its variants. The two car are very interchangeable as are a few other FWD dodge cars that PT/Neons can share bits with. Also....let me also clear up the the PT is a variant of the PL2000 Neon platform....so in essence PT = Neon and as such one can understand why there is so much similarity in the two cars mechanically

You're right on everything buddy, except the PT being based on the PL2000 Neon Platform. It WAS supposed to be, but DC was going for getting the PT classified as a truck (it's really a car, but DC wanting to expand it's line of cars in various catagories). So they began changing things so it could fall under the truck catagory. The end result was that, bodywise, the PT's share only the front suspension with the Neon platform. The 2 chassis aren't even the same.

But hey, you guys got better intake manifolds, and are close to 500lbs lighter cause of the differences!

What about buying a wrecked SRT/4 off ebay or someplace and swapping everything-Engine,trans,PCM,harness and even the PATS key sos the anti-theft stuff won't be a prob? I have found SRT/4 motors and trannies online by themselves for as little as $1K and have heard of whole, wrecked SRT/4s for as little as $2500.

The SRT-4 intake would fit in the PT's engine bay, neither would the tranny. The PCM would be useless since it would work in a PT (PT's have cruise control, and other stuff that are different than SRT-4's).

I could care less about the cruise control. I was just wanting to use the PCM with the SRT/4 motor so as not to have issues w/ the wiring harness. But since the tranny from the SRT/4 wouldn't work, what about a PT GT trans? Beef it up a bit to handle the power? Why won't the SRT trans fit anyways?

As far as the intake hitting the hood latch, that could be remedied with hood pins and the removal of the latch all together.

The PCM could be solved with a MegaSquirt and Spark (MS&S).

The Getrag would fit and is a very STOUT tranny! I have friends doing close to and over 400hp with just an upgraded clutch. The getrag is a monster and even weighs more than the 41te auto tranny!

Don't see why not since the 2.4L n/a and 2.4L turbo's are basically the same engine/block except that the turbo engine is more beefed up. You'll probably need the turbo axles tho, but I don't know. As for the tranny price, looks around on ebay. Oh, and your shift pattern will be different.

The block and crank are exactly the same... However I don't know if the tranny is a direct swap.

That would be your best bet if you must have an SRT engine.....I would still go with the PT tranny unless you are a compleatly bored sadist. The best bet is to go with a PT version of A855. Your life will be much easier.
