i was wondering how hard it is to install the plastic manifold. i was thinking about getting the top part and the bottem part of the plastic manifold and was wondering how hard it is to get the bottem part off and put on the new one. if any one has done this i would appriciate any info. thanx!
I've done a few of them, but I refuse to put the composite manifold on my own car. I think 24psi on a 50 trim is too much for a plastic manifold and may split the seams but who knows. Not to mention when I run my meth injection my intake manifold temps are still 25+ degrees cooler than the plastic manifold with no meth. Anyways, the lower bracket is a bit of a pain to take off, but once you get it off I don't think you need to put it back on. I'm not really sure why it's considered to be necessary but I've had mine off for quite some time and it hasn't effected the car at all. It's fairly straight forward though, remove the charge pipe and throttle body first then pull off the 5 bolts on the upper intake manifold, don't forget to pull the map sensor and misc. stuff off the intake mani and pull it out. You can get to the lower bolts with a ratchet and the right extensions it's just a pain in the butt to do because of that lower bracket. Just make sure when you put everything back together that your gasket is ok and sealed well otherwise you'll get boost leaks and a rough idle and you'll get to do it all over again!

Wouldn't worry too much about the composite manifold holding,, I have had my 50trim on for 2+ years,, I push 26+psi on the strip,, and it was tested to 150psi if I remember correctly.
Anyhoo,, the bracket on the front of the lower is a PITA,, but doable.
The composite manifold has a diverter to help richen #1, which was lean with the alum intake.
That's good to know about the composite manifold tom. I'm going to be getting a spare aluminum manifold here soon which I'm gonna port the dog crap out of to see what I can make with it. In the meantime, I'm going to use my old lower peice and try to fab something up to where I can actually bolt on a log style upper peice to the lower half and see what I can do with that too
so would a newbie with engines have a lot of troubles getting it of and the new one on? Ive looked to try and see where the bottem piece comes off but i think that the top half is in the way. is it easier to see once the top part of the manifold comes off? So i am a newb and i am really curious what the 50 trim is that i see all over these forums actually is.

I'm running the composite and have no complaints. I have my aluminum manifold and am thinking of doing major mods to it as well. I like the long runners for torque, so the mod will be in the plenum area. Something along the lines of brngrhd's excellent design. Doing a bit of design research now.
There is a proven 8whp gain because of the smoother runners and some say because the composite manifold runs a little cooler but I dunno about that part lol. As far as sound...if there were a difference it would be so faint you wouldn't even notice it
once you get the top & bottom parts off, grab the lower bracket and pull and bend it forward a little bit. Then wiggle it back and forth. It will be nice and lose. Then you can move it to the side and have plain sight of the PITA bolt. It comes right out with no issues.
Plastic is plastic regardless what it is made of, heat will deteriate it after awhile... plastic was cheaper for DCR,,, the smooth inside was a bonus... in the long run it will crap out... my 2 cents

I still don't feel like it's a must do mod and probably won't ever end up getting one. My mods include meth injection which is a big factor in keeping the car running a bit cooler. You can say blah all you want, but when my cruiser lined up with a cruiser running the plastic manifold, after the quarter mile run was done we parked next to eachother and his manifold temps were over 20 degrees warmer than my aluminum manifold's temps. I'd rather experiment with the aluminum one and port the hell out of it first then I'll go from there.
I hate to bring back a month old post but. Turbocruiser13 if your running meth your running much lower temps in the first place. So if the other Cruiser was also on meth then his intake temps would probably be lower than yours. Now Im not trying to bash you on that but if your comparing them at least compare them equaly.
Unless you werent running meth that time, or the other Cruiser was on meth then please disregard my post.
so i ordered the plastic mani from haynes and got the email confirming the order, but my credit card hasnt been charged yet. is this normal from haynes? I was hoping to get the mani before christmas.
That's perfectly normal from haynes they're a very reputable shop and you most likely will get it before christmas lol. As for the post above that, the point I was trying to make is the fact that the plastic manifold is supposed to run cooler than the metal one, but with the use of meth the metal one can run cooler than plastic. I still don't trust the plastic manifold for 400 horsepower plus I can port the crap out of the metal one and get some more gains out of it. Not to mention once I'm done porting it I can utilize the lower peice to fabricate a log style manifold later on down the road
