Default Boost question

1st question I have is how much boost does a stock 03 PT GT run?

How much boost is safe to run on the stock turbo/ wga?

Where do you hook a boost gauge to in a PT GT?

My buddy bought one the other day, and wants to hook up a boost gauge, and up the boost a little, and I didn't know if the turbo and the wga was the same, as in the spring and diaphram in the wga as the srt-4's. I also need to know where to take the boost gauge line. It will be a mechanical gauge. Nothin fancy for him, he's married with a 1 year old kid, and the wife isn't into loud, and fast cars to take the kid in.

Thanks for all the help.

I could be a good friend and give him my stock WGA from my car to help out because I am kind of guessing they might be a little bit different! I dont know the answer either so when we find out I can probably dig it out of the garage! Or he can get Jay a TCC Customs to hook up his special direct port 800 shot and he can run 7's!

Stock S0 boost is 10-12lbs, depending...

As much as a stock SRT. They have the same turbo assembly

Where do you hook a boost gauge to in a PT GT?
If he has the plastic manifold, there is a boss on the rear he can tap and hook into. If the aluminum manifold, you can tee into the brake booster, or the line on top of the TB...

No problem. Get him a mapclamp, Stage 1 and a S2 WGA, up the boost a bit, and tell him to save for a powerdemon tranny, if it's an auto. If it's a Getrag, tell him to save for a clutch....lol. Either way, any little ricers he comes across will end up VERY surprised!

hharper1321, Thanks a lot! Now we can start doing some cheap and easy mods to a PT GT! It'll be the only modded one around this area. Most of the people around here that have them are older and not into racing. First time for everything

So being the same turbo assembly do they start to pull timing at the same boost?
Can we spike like 17-18 on the stock injectors? What size injectors are they?

The 03's have smaller injectors than the 04 and up. 04 and up have S1 injectors already installed. Best thing he could do is to install S1. Everything for the PT flows from there. He can then easily up the boost to 17-18 lbs. Hell just do S1 and anS2 WGA and you could spike 18 hold 15 to redline....

Unfortunately not much more than stock. The S0 PCM throws all kinds of codes when you play with the boost. Get S1, it's the foundation to build off of, and eliminates all those annoying codes....

edit: and I realize that you are still waiting on S1, it will come grasshopper, patience.....

I have my boost guage mounted on my A-pillar. Looks much better than on the steering column IMO.

Well I am looking at modding my 03. I have a S1 installed already and I have a S2 WGA at home that was going to go on my neon (long story) but now it's just sitting lonley. I can just throw it on and go? What benefits will I get from using the S2 WGA over the stock?

Throw it on and drive it light for a couple days until the PCm learns it there. Then you should be golden.

Um....ok.

I thought that there would be part throttle boost problems. Also, the S2 is adjustable. Throw it on and drive light scares me.

You can do things to minimize PTB like a bigger turbo or external BOV, but it will always be there. You have to "preload" your wga to run and hold at 13-14 psi to redline without the aid of a mbc. Once you achieve that, then fine tune with a mbc. A dual stage boost controller is the best. Run 11-12 psi on 1st gear and 14-15psi for the higher gears. This will minimize ptb and wheel hop. Keep in mind the fluttering sound is amplified with a CAI. You will basically need to re-learn how to drive your car. I always ease off the throttle when approaching 15 psi on medium acceleration. PTB will occur between 15-20psi. If you are getting spikes up to 20 psi, ease off the mbc or tune down the wga. Too much ptb is really bad for our cars. Good luck.
