Angry Back fire in intake, Dealer no help!

I had a back fire in the intake, which blew th MAP sensor in two. I picked another sensor up at the dealer for $142.00 and installed it. The CEL went off, but the car doesn't pull like it did. I checked the IC hoses for leaks and couldn't find any. I took it to the dealer (Jeep Chrysler of Ontario, CA) as I have 7/75k warranty and only have 51,000 miles. They had it for 3 days and replaced the MAP sensor connector and a leaking trans servo pack. When I picked up the car it didn't run any better than when I took it in! During the 3 days they had it I kept telling them it was more than a connector as the only problem with the connector when I brought it in was the lock broke during the back fire. I gave the assistant manager a ride to show him "all noise, no go", he told me that there were no codes on the PCM, and they don't perform pressure test to check the system for leaks. The wife an I were looking a buying a new GT for her, but if they can't fix mine why get another one? Now I have to try and find the problem! Does anyone have any ideas, or had the same problem. HELP!

I was going around 2 slower cars and didn't push the gas pedal enough to down shift and lugged it. Then there was a pop, and the CEL came on.So today I am trying to find the problem. I removed the heat shielding on the fire wall to check all of the hoses, but no luck. Tuesday before I took it to the dealer I removed the IC hoses to check for leaks, and they were OK. I have a stock engine, so now I am wondering if the diaphram ruptured in the stock blow off valve. That may allow boost pressure to bleed back into the turbo without showing an obvious leak, but I'm not sure. Has any one had that problem?

if I read all this correct you had a back fire at the intake manifold not the intake to the inlet on the turbo?

Yes, the intake manifold as the blown MAP sensor indicated. I removed the stock blow off valve, and the diaphram was fine. It's acting like a major boost leak, but I haven't found it yet. I did notice that my fuel gage hardly moved after 60 miles, and that never happened before.

I seem to remember a post on PTCrew that indicated a GT owner had a cracked plastic intake manifold. There appeared to be oil leaking from one of the cylinder feeds. A lean condition could cause the imbalance, blown map, and the excessive noise. The question is do you have a plastic intake manifold on yours? Not all of them had the plastic. I would also check all the sealing gaksets, but my first suspect would be the manifold.
Let me know.

Captaincog, yes I do have a plastic intake manifold, and that was the first thing I checked, but didn't see any obvious damage (cracks). The idle has been smooth, so I didn't think anymore about the manifold. I will put bubble leak detector around the manifold seams and rev the engine to see if there are any leaks. So far I haven't seen any oil leaking anywhere on the manifold. This weekend I was going to pull the lower IC hose assembly out to inspect it, before I just disconnected the hose to the IC and looked at it. I was also going to do a compression test on the engine to see if there have been any changes since I did it a couple of years ago. I am running out of ideas at this point.

Well, when I got home from work I put bubble leak tester on the seams of the plastic manifold and rev'd to boost, and bubbles all over! The seams let go, but showed no sign of damage. I ordered another plastic manifold, and will epoxy this one for now. At least now I know why it was acting up.

Were you running higher boost levels? Stage 1, MBC, WGA? I am very curious, either it was a fluke to the plastic mani can only hold so much.
We should get together since I am not too far away here in Rialto.
Let me know what happens.
