Default Autometer Electric Boost Gauge

Quick question for ya. Got the gauge installed and reading correctly. Of course, after getting everything mounted we later found out that the bulb in the gauge would not turn on. I think the ground may not be making a full connection. We attached the ground wire from the bulb to the ground wire from the gauges map sensor and ran that down and attached it to a factory ground bolt in the footwell area. Could this be the issue? Also does anyone know if the pins in the gauge pod can be removed without damaging them?
