Hey I actually found this particular thread through a google search, but I had a question. I was just given a 2002 PT Cruiser, and I'm looking for after-market parts and ideas. I've been told and read here that the 2.4L in the Cruiser is essentially the same as in the SRT4. Would that mean that performance cams, gears, pistons, etc. that are made for the SRT4 engine would fit on mine? thanks, DP
Performance cams would most likely be very mild on your car. The non turbo applications have a little more lift/duration to make up a little bit of power that's lost since ya don't have a turbo. A cheap mod for us turbo guys is to take the cams out of the 2.0 first gen neons and stick em in our cars, you can get em for about 60 bucks and it's a good 15 horsepower with gears adjusted. As for the rest of the stuff, if you're looking into building a cheap turbo setup then taking the internals out of an srt/pt gt motor is a no go. You'll pretty much need the whole motor/wiring harnes/etc because the turbo motors have a different oiling system in the head I believe that provides a little more insurance towards not cooking a piston. If you're lookin to make some more power on your 02, run over to ptcrew dot com, find the mod bible section, and scroll down until you see the basic stages of performance for the N/A cruiser....should still be there somewhere. Lots of good info on that page that'll help you out rather than spending entirely too much money on the non turbo pt trying to make it quicker.

I have a question about the cam suggestion. Since I have no turbo, would it be profitable for the to swap to the neon cams? I was researching crane cams and wondering if anyone would comment on the 193-0010, 193-0012, or 193-0014 cams they have.
If you're planning on going whipple which won't even bring you up to stock GT specs then some of those cams won't benefit you much. You have to be very selective on which cams you decide to choose, and some of the taller lift cams won't benefit you much as they are for making power at higher rpms more than lower. With the whipple you'll see most of your power in the low to mid range.
That's what I figured. The whipple is just something I'm toying with, and wouldn't happen for a while. Right now I'm looking for some other things to do besides exhaust, headers, and suspension. I was going to go ahead and do the intake manifold, but what's the use of changing that only to put on a turbo later and have to change it again.
You can swap out your intake manifold for the turbo manifold/throttlebody and adapt an intake onto it, then you'd be set up for the turbo already when you get to that point.
No, this is my every day car. My real play car's an 07 Civic SI. K20, skunk2 cams and intake manifold, AEM gears, AEM cold air, tokico struts, omnipower coilovers, etc. besides that this is really may wife's car so I can't sell it. lol
