I've been having an odd scan gauge issue ever since I installed stage 2 on Saturday. The scan gauge will stay on for 20 minutes or so, and then I notice that it turns off. Then after a couple of seconds, it will turn back on. On Sunday, I noticed that my RB1 navi unit wouldn't turn on, and now today it turned back on and reset... but the scan gauge keeps turning off every 20 minutes or so. I've checked the connection to the OBD port and it seems to fit as snug as it ever has.
Is the nav unit connected to the OBD2 bus? The only way the gauge stays on is if there is traffic on the bus. Bus traffic will also cause the gauge to turn back on if it is off.
The different stage PCM's do not effect the turn on/off characteristics.

Hmm, I'll have to check into that... I know the Chrysler RB1 navigation unit cannot be used while the car is in motion, so maybe it's using the bus to detect speed... but it's weird because I've never had the issues before and I've had my RB1 for close to a year now and the scangauge for a few months... I'll tear everything down tonight and check all the connections.
mine comes on once in a while. i just un plug it every night when i wont be driving the car for a while and then plug it back in, in the morning
The original code used in the SRT-4 used to respond to the door unlock command, as well as bus traffic from turbo timers etc. We've since eliminated that, probably around spring of 2007. I'm assuming your gauge is older than that?
I bought my gauge in the summer, and it only started sporadically turning off after I installed S2. I love the gauge, and it's more of an annoyance than anything to see the gauge reset itself while driving down the road. Oddly enough when i was stock, if I unplugged the gauge and plugged it back in without starting the engine, the shift lights would come on if I opened the doors. Now with the S2 if I do the same thing, the shift lights will blink like alarm LEDs until I start the car. I know it's not an issue and I know S2 doesn't change how the gauge operates, it's just something I noticed.
I really think I might have a grounding issue in my car that could be causing my issues. I wish I had a diagram for all the SRT grounds so I could check them one by one, and in the meantime, I'll be putting the gauge in a friend's car to see if it still randomly turns off.
Well, both of these should be new enough to be upgraded to new software that we are releasing next month. This may help as I know the current software is not doing any of these things, although the versions sold last summer should not be doing this either. The gauge will turn off if it does not get a response from the PCM, or it looses power or ground.
Not turning off or turning on for no reason is odd. It is seeing some sort of activity on the bus. Is there anything that you know of connected to the OBD2 bus?

I for one am looking forward to that update. I don't have anything connected to the OBD2 bus.. i'm a purely "stock" S2. I bought it used from someone who was running a SAFC and had it reflashed. It's a Toys pcm, and I noticed that he doesn't have the fourth connector capped like the other S2 ecu's... also, the ground underneath the intake that connects to the capacitor coming off the block looks like it's heat damaged. I've been told that it connects back to the PCM and does something with the radio and rf, so I'm investigating to see if a faulty connection there could be causing the problems that I'm seeing.
I have Stage 2 ecu and RB1 navigation installed in my car along with Aeroforce pro gauge. I don't have the problem that you are describing.
Ok cool, thanks for checking in... I've since found that the RB1 issue was with the connection in the back being loose, so that's been fixed. I'm still having the gauge issues, but they are completely sporadic. Some days it doesn't happen, some days it'll turn off and on every few random minutes. I've checked all the grounds and rewired the noise suppressor capacitor, but it still does the same thing. I have a feeling the issue might either be with the gauge or maybe the wire leading to the OBD port is crimped somewhere. Either way, I hope they have a chance to look at it when I send it in for that awesome update they're releasing soon.
