Well it all started at MIR at the Ultimate Outlaw Shootout in August. First run of the day the car takes a hard right off of the line towards the other lane. Limp back to the pits and find the passenger side UV joint ripped to pieces. Replace the axle and test drive the car in the pits and its still pulling hard to the right. Our weekend is done as I suspect a diff problem.
Pulled the tranny out at DCR only to find we can't get the driver side axle out no matter what we used. Dropped the tranny with the axle in it and try to remove it on the bench . . . it wouldn't move no matter what we did. Darrell wound up cutting it out with a torch. Found the splined end of the axle to be in good shape, but the race surface just back from the splined end fused into the diff. It took a 12 ton press and a lot of heat to get it out.
The good side to the story is peloquin will rebuild it for me for just shipping cost. We'll probably add another 1/1000 clearence in that area to allow for more fluid flow to handle excessive wheel spin in the event an axle breaks.
The old reliable Phantom Grip is in there now.

99% sure thats normal, the axles wear originally designed and built with the Hot Rod in mind and on the Hot Rod the passanger wheel was staggered and inset just a little. It not much but there is a little slack. First indication it's poping otu id the Speed sensor starts reading funny/not reading at all.
yea thats what darrell told me, it was normal and built around the hot rod..and the peloquin didnt have the ring land grove...i was getting a lot of vibration with the DSS race axle (mine was off the hot rod) and he suggested i just put an OEM auto axle to eliminate the vibration...i thought with the OEM having more give i wouldnt need the spacers...i was wrong..still get vibration driving on the street, dont really notice it at the track

The axles we put in were from the DriveShaft Shop and never had an issue with them until this event. Reliability and price, they'll never go back in. Replaced both axles with brand new ones from AutoZone for $54 (discounted). Those axles look really strong and beefy, and come with a life time guarantee. The only thing I don't like is the design of the snap ring. Its a square ring and not tapered as others are. Hard to snap in, but holds well.
hmm funny i have never had any issues with mine and i probably had my axles in and out more then anyone!! they never pop out either i would have to say that is a problem not normal at all, i would find the root and fix the problem not bandaid it.

darrell told me the problem was the peloquin wasnt grooved for the passenger retainer ring? the washers keep it all together so its no biggie, doesnt seem to be a problem
I have made about 2 or 3 runs with the Peloquin and have not had a problem

Time will tell just how good they are.
good luck with those autozone axles.
you'll get your money's worth out of that lifetime warranty when you constantly take them in after breaking them... assuming they cover it.
And just what do you have to backup your statement? As always you know everything about everything.
back in 05 when i got my auto DSS gave me the wrong axles. i sent them back twice because they kept fucking up and sending me a passenger axle that was too long and i ended up trying vatozone axles but busted the passenger side and ended up just waiting for DSS to get me the right axles.
