As you can tell by my user name, I'm an AWD lover. I sold my Typhoon a while back because after grenading 4 BUILT 700R4's in 6 months, I couldn't take the pain. Bought a Lightning and have been loving it ever since. Now they come out with the GC SRT-8 and it's all I can think about. 400+ HP and AWD has me hooked. Only one thing is keeping me away; I'm concerned with the durability of the transmission. I know NOTHING about Jeeps or Dogde to be honest, but I am always trying to learn. Just how beefy can you make these trannies? will they support a bottle thrown in as well? If I buy this thing, I at least need it to be as fast as where I'm at now, which will require some giggle-gas, as a blower is probably a few years out development wise right?
Sorry so many questions gang, but this thing has me excited. If I can feel confident that the tranny will hold up, I'm all over this thing.
The A580 transmission was available from AMG Mercedes, and was used on their older E55 AMG's from 98 - 2002. The 2002 E55 AMG had 476hp and 516lb torque.
The SRT team liked it because itcould be programmed for shift improvements, it would work to 170mph, and it would handle engine RPM's to 6200.
The GC SRT has 420hp and 420lb torque, so there IS room to spare. What makes this transmission even better is that it's a 5 speed, so the ratios can be played with for optimal performance down the road after mods are done (and if DC opens their codes a little).

I guess my follow up question would be: could the tranny handle the new mopar 426 hemi crate engine? It has 465 hp and 486 ft llbs of torque.
You mean the 392ci 6.4L? Don't know. I would assume yes, but the A580 was tweaked a little to match the 6.1L. It's hard to tell for sure unless SRT would stop being so protective with their tuning information.

After talking to the TeamSRT, I am in doubt with the tranny holdingmore than 500 HP at that wheels. This one of two problems I had noiced with those who webt force induction above the 550 mark.
I wanted to push 600-rwHP with a sleeper Charger SRT8. Now I have to wait for the next upgrade to ensure there is some durability with the botht he bottom of the block and tranny.
