I'm not a highway racer (think it's dangerous) but I was given a good chance last night on the highway going home from just giving my gc srt8 some exercise when a truck raced up behind me and kept tailing me. It then pulled up next to me and I realized it was a Ram srt-10. He looked at me, gave me a "let's race" nod and mimed a "race on third honk." I looked around, we were alone (kinda rare - there were a few cars in the distance) and decided let's go for it. I quickly shifted to third right before the third honk and at the third honk floored it. We went at it for maybe 20 seconds (and making sure to shift into fourth around 5,500 rpms) until we can up on a car and I was about 3/4 a length ahead of him. We slowed down and he gaive me a thumb's up.
I turned off to take some back country roads with great twisty's - and to my surprise he followed me. We ended up paying a bit of a "cat and mouse" chase. He could really keep up with me on the straight parts, so I decided to see how he was going to do on the sharp turns. I decided to play the corners hard (no braking) and slingshot myself around them by gassing hard at the bend. Slowing but surely I started to lose him until he was pretty tiny in my rearview. He did give me a highbeam flash before he turned down another road.
This was one big adrenaline rush. And a good test of what my jeep could do. I must give a hat tip to the ram srt-10 guys - you have one fine machine.
As far as info - my gc srt8 has 1040 miles on it, and I had esp on the whole time.
I know little about the performance vis-a-vis the ram - what do you guys think? I suspect that it is pure stock.
Good story. From what I've read I think stock vs. stock gives the Jeep the advantage just as you describe. Man, I love Dodge for making a high-performance truck and SUV in addition to the cars. I might have to get an SRT-8 myself.
Good story.... That AWD really helps in the twisty's.... It's always fun to play... as long as the condition's are right... Makes the heart pound... and puts a smile on your face... GCSRT8's are the Shizzle...
