Default Car & Driver GC SRT-8 vs. TBSS test...

Well the test is complete, the results are in, & what in the heck in C&D thinking, sheesh. After receiving 12 more points for: Towing Capacity, Cargo Space, Features/Amenities, & "Gotta-have-it-factor, the TBSS wins by 2 points. Oh, they tested a no option SRT-8 & a loaded TBSS which explains the feature difference between the two.

The Performance Numbers:
SRT-8 0-60 in 4.5, SS in 5.5
SRT-8 0-100 in 12.0, SS in 14.6
SRT-8 0-130 in 24, SS in 29
SRT-8 1/4 mile in 13.2@104, SS 14.1@98
SRT-8 70-0 in 2 feet shorter
SRT-8 5-60 Rolling Start 4.9, SS 5.9
SRT-8 pulls .88 G, SS .81 G
SRT-8 Top Speed 155, SS 130
The SRT-8 was awarded a huge 2, count 'em, I said TWO more points than the SS in the performance category. Crazy ain't it, LOL.

In an article entitled "Speed-Crazy Sport-Utes" performance should be the emphasis. But not today my friends, it's Cargo Space & Towing Capacity. Heck if my H2, or Denali XL had been entered they'd have won in a cake walk. Is it a conspiracy, does C&D have a hidden agenda? Is it GM's advertising dollars talking, did DC fail to pay the piper, LOL, I don't know & don't care. As for me & my Benjamins performance is all that matters & the GC SRT-8 is #1 in a rout.
Signing off, Randy.

Unbelievable. Two more points for the SRT when it kills the SS in every performance category??? Comparing a stripped SRT with a loaded SS in the "features" category??? What moron(s) at C&D put together this "review"?

I'm surprised that they didn't take 5 points off the test scores for BOTH models since neither can haul 7 passengers!

As usuall it is biased, but who cares. The SS got spanked. We know it and they know it. They are just afraid to admit it.

88 g skidpad score...that's more like it, still amazing for an SUV. However, I knew it couldn't be the "best" SRT handling vehicle.

Ah, yes, the great equalizer, the ever elusive "Gotta have it" factor. Also tied to the "Fatten the advertising wallet" factor. Really, what about the TRailbalzer makes for a higher GHI? Tradition? Nope. Coolness? Maybe, but Id venture that SRT has at least as much cool as SS.

There really is no contest the SRT8 CLEARLY spanks the SS in all performance categories ....and the jeeps have a great look and style about them....while the trailblazer still looks like something out of 1998.....Sorry GM try again......

Well srt claims .92 skidpad score (see their website), and there have been other magazines that have confirmed it.

We all know SRT owns. We don't need a magazine to tell us.

Sounds like the advertising department at Car and Driver put together this review.

I think we know who donated more to advertising this month after hearing about this review.

I always believed YOU BigH..and I did go to the site, and you are in fact correct. I'm simply writing that i don't buy it, it's just not possible IMO. Under real world conditions, I would challenge ANYONE who drives ANY SUV made...to pull 90+ skidpad numbers ...it just ain't happenin'.

Whenever i go to the track, and see guys there with SUV's doing slalom tests and such...i laugh my ass off, cause these TRUCKS get top heavy QUICK in tight (at speed) turns. It's actually simply mathematics, with a center of gravity that high, i don't care what size tires you have, that SUV is gonna ROLL..and do so HEAVY if tested hard.

just my worthless cents

Default A quick follow up...

The Performance Numbers:
SRT-8 0-60 in 4.5, SS in 5.5
SRT-8 0-100 in 12.0, SS in 14.6
SRT-8 0-130 in 24, SS in 29
SRT-8 1/4 mile in 13.2@104, SS 14.1@98
SRT-8 70-0 in 2 feet shorter
SRT-8 5-60 Rolling Start 4.9, SS 5.9
SRT-8 pulls .88 G, SS .81 G
SRT-8 Top Speed 155, SS 130
[/quote]

A quick follow up. For many the above chart doesn't paint a true picture of the results. Maybe this will help...

The SRT-8 was 88 ft. ahead from 0-60.
The SRT-8 was 137 ft. ahead at the 1/4 mile.
The SRT-8 was 381 ft. ahead from 0-100.
The SRT-8 was 953 ft. ahead from 0-130.

So what if the SRT-8 holds one less can of soda than the SS. I can make 3 freakin trips to the store & back before the SS ever made one, LOL.

This is exactly why I did not renew my subscription to C&D. They did the same thing to the GTO and the new mustang. The GTO spanked the stang in every catagory, yet they gave the Ford 25 more points for the 'Gotta Have It' factor.

I'll never buy / read C&D again.

Is That A Typo???

4.5 0-60 for the SRT-8?

Do you guys realize how fricken insanely fast that is...lol they've been advertising for months that is does "0-60 in under 5 seconds", yeah well it's half a second faster than that!!!

I get my Car and Driver tomorrow and upon further review of the article i will be writing a letter to the editor and then cancelling my subscription. C&D has been going downhill for months upon months now and its just retarded that they play favorites or are payed off.

A high stall converter, exhaust, intake, ECU/Chip would put this thing very close to very high 3's, or very low 4's 0-60....absolutely insane.
