Default Strange clunk when going over big bumps, also when shifting semi hard. Help :[

Ok so this has been driving me nuts, not sure what the problem is but...

When i go over big bumps i get this lound clunk/thud sound. I also get the same exact sound when shifting kinda hard, and when letting off the gas in say 2nd at 4k rpms it will thud back and forth a few times.

The last strange thing that i feel is related to the other 2 issues is when im on the freeway, going around a slight corner "only does it when going around a right sweep" i will get a vibrating/humming sound and the steering wheel will rapidly shake and i can also feel vibrating on the gas pedal.

I have prothane motor mount inserts, and also control arm inserts.

Ideas?

I had something similar. Ended up destroying the actual motor mount. You know, the big cast iron (what ever it is) sob. Broke 2 bolts and the timing belt tensioner. Also destroyed the timing belt and nearly dropped the engine on the road. Bad news.

i had a HUGE clunking issue over big bumps, boomba mounts fixed the problem...but i noticed that the clunk was coming from the engine acctually knocking on the crossmember on the passanger side when it was jolting up and down over bumps, you can even see the marks on the crossmember!!! shame on the stock mounts...

this engine "movement" can also be blamed for the famed TPS wiring issue and also i had an issue where the RAD fan fuse kept blowing and it was cuz the wire near the rad fans was all frayed and rusty right next to the engine. gee i wonder how that happened....

i got somethin rattling around to, only when i first start moving in the car, sounds like the hot pipe hotting something but i cant see anything. i just put on my 3076 so im thinking its pushing the pipe down to where it contacts the crosmember. stock mounts still too

I get a little clunk when I first start the car up, sounds like the front passenger side, but I can't find anything wrong. Only does it when I start the car up.

So i think i may have found the issue.

Sorry for the crappy quality, i had to use my cell phone "Digital camera is broke"

Anyway in the beginning of the video you can hear it clunking back and forth as i shake it. Toward the end of the video i light it up so you can see what im shaking.

The drivers side does not do this, just the passenger

What is this part called, how hard is it to replace?

Do you think this is whats causing my clunking?

BORKED

thats a tie rod, part of the rack and pinion. does the tie rod go back and forth in the boot? if so that would be bad. ttie rod is the toe adjustment so if its moving that much you would probly notice really bad alignment issues all over the place????????

think back have you gone crazy before turning the steering wheel all the way to one side trying to do massive doughnuts or somthing, maybe thats the cause of this. at very least your gonna have to get under there at som point and get dirty. ask S&P about ties rods they know more than i do about this
