As far as I know the only thing that is monitored is the fluid level and pump and a CEL is triggered only if there is a problem with those. Do you hear any whine when you turn lock to lock?
Okay I know this is an old thread, but my engine light just came on and when I check the code I get this P0551.
There's plenty of fluid in the power steering pump. But I haven't had a chance to check the sensor down on the rack.
Has anyone else had this happen?
Should of posted this earlier, but after I posted my last response I went out and unplugged the harness on the rack and plugged it back in after wiping down the contacts.(they looked ok)
The light stayed on but you have to run thru several cycles before it resets.
And sure enough it went off a couple of days later "after I called the dealer and set up an appointment to bring it in.(go figure)"
Oddly enough my light turned off before I could get to it, however I noticed that the little white cap that was on the valve right next to the power steering contrainer is no where to be found... O_o
So, let see if I read this right.
The switch to tell you that there's something wrong with the rack went bad. Interesting, so if somethings wrong with the rack then............hmmm.
ok i finally had time to go to the dealer, and wow what a difference in handling, i guess the shitty handling grew on me after the problem occured. they said the power streering pressure switch circuit was stuck open...but they replaced the whole rack, it was under warranty so im happy
