Any issues after you plugged it back in? Just checked mine this afternoon while giving it a good wash and interior cleaning and sure enough, clutch pedal is mashing the crap out of that poor little wire...
i just moved mine...04 model..made in june..didnt seem to be rubbing too bad...but im sure when the mileage starts to rack up it could become a problem. No issues removing the brake light switch (dont know why it says not to re use..prolly some legal stuff). Works fine afterwards no problem. Good peace of mind knowing that those wires arent be'n mashed. I also made a little plug out of plastic to cover up my vin
wtf would they run those wires like that...duh...same with the damn tps wires...couldnt have made em like 2 inches longer
I can't check my car right now (it's dark out). but if its anything like my first gen neon, the brake light switch is just a square plastic piece with a button on it that is positioned behind the brake pedel, and when the pedel is depressed, it pushes in the button and lights up the bakes. I assume this is the same on the SRT. If so, maybe when they say, don't reinstall it, they mean don't take out the actual piece that the switch plugs into. follow me? if you were to take out the piece that's physically connected to the firewall/floorboard or bottom of the dash, then it would need to be readjusted perfectly in order for your brake lights to light up correctly. I think if you just unplugged the brake switch, and pluged it back in without moving the piece that's actually mounted to the bottom of the dash/firewall (whichever it is), you should be perfectly fine.
i'll have to look at it tomorrow when it's light out. but i think what i'm saying makes sense?

Hey guys, while having my new alarm installed I asked the installer if he saw the wire problem discussed here. Turned out I had the same problem. I have a 04' made in 4/04. At first i was worried about disconnecting it to move it but i did anyway. It's out of the way now, zip-tied out of harms way. I no longer feel the wire as i press down on my clutch. Thanks for the help!
I had the dealership look at my 04 SRT-4 (built first week of July) today, because I have the same issue.
When I got the car back the issue was marked fixed on the work order. I wanted to check to see what they did. I went out to check this evening, and guess what? The wires are in exactly the same spot as they were when I took them in, and the crushed spot on the wires not even re-wrapped.
Because it is clear to me that this(?) dealership is incapable of fixing even this relatively simple issue, I am going to have to do this myself... What I want to know is does anyone have pictures of how they fixed the problem? I have seen the before pictures, I want to see the after pictures.

Man, I can't believe that you people are not taking these things to the dealer and demanding they are fixed properly. Document the problems and get photographs. If you have to take a technician by the hand and show him the problem and tell him that it needs to be fixed. I just caught this thred today. I have an 05 with about 1200 on it. If this problem still exist then Im going to take it to my dealer and if I have to hold the techs hand during the whole repair. Do not let your dealer push you around.
Hmmmm...My Brake Light only comes on when I press the brake pedal, but the wiring is pretty smashed up, Im thinking thats the reason why I keep getting the P0572 code, I relocated the wire, drove about 60 miles, still no CEL as of yet. We'll see...
I realize this is an older thread but I would like to say that you dont have to be affraid to remove the brake switch. Just press the brake pedal down(this will ensure you dont mess up the adjustment of the switch), turn the switch and pull it out. Now all you have to do is be sure not to touch the button sticking out of the switch. If you do you will have to replace it most likely because it will now be out of adjustment. Now when reinstalling do the same...... press the brake pedal down, insert the switch and turn it into the locked position. Now release the brake pedal. If all is good your brake lights should be off with the pedal at rest. If not you must have bumped the button on the switch and now your switch is out of adjustment. Now you will have to go buy a switch.
The only thing that will happen if you mess up your switch is your brake lights will stay on even with the pedal at rest. Dont worry the switch isnt that expensive! But if your car is still under warrenty just have the dealership fix this problem! After all thats what your warrenty is for!
i have an 05 i dont have that problem. seems that they re-routed them on the 05, cause its not near it at all.
I've got an 05, built 09/04, and the wires are routed right behind the clutch like my 04 had. I just noticed it the other day actually and remarked to my wife how there was a thread on this problem.
i have an 04 with 8k, wire was getting pretty mashed. moved it and now i feel an easier shit and no worry about cuttin the wire. thank you for posting this!!!!!!
