i'm sorry i love my car but i am constantly reminded with stuff like this that these dodge techs are a bunch of TOOLS.
i'm just glad that there are lots of people on these forums that know what they're talking about and can help keep our cars out of the service department's hands.
and i dont give a damn what all you pessimists say, my shifting is DEFINITELY better now. i feel like i actually have syncros now. life is beautiful.
move that shit as soon as possible, unless you like buying clutches and trannies.
I'm installing a AFR Gage in my car and doing some wiring thru the firewall and saw the following that will certainly over time be a wiring problem.
The Clutch Lever when fully depressed will mash the Brake Switch wiring harness against the floor board. Mine is crushed, but still functional. There are 2 push pins holding it exactly in place for this to happen! I'm going to try and re-route mine as soon as I can get the plug out of the Brake Switch. I had no luck so far in getting out the plug but will try again later.
Look at yours now to see it for yourself. Mopar and you need to know about this.
here here. I moved it already. Nice call. If there are any post an things just like this one, I am interested.
Dose are good cables. I must have crushed them every day for the last year or so. lol. Nice
How did you guys move it. I tryed to repositionit but everywhere I placed it it was still getting crushed by the pedal arm. Give me exact details please.
saw that about a month ago when i installed my remote start. i just moved the wire.. zipties are your friend. to remove the brake switch wiring harness you have to remove the brake switch.. it takes a 1/4 turn to the left.. then it comes right out..
I was going to install a remote start as well. Can you give me any heads up on doing so, like how did you bypass the clutch sensor.
The place that istalled my alarm didnt hook that option up, due to liability issues, because its STANDARD.
Well tell me this. 1 out of 10 how hard was it?
I... Removed the harness by twisting counter-clock 1/4 turn and re-routing in front of the clutch and zip-tying... however the words "DO NOT RE-INSTALL" are boldly printed on the harness... hope that means nothing
This was in the service manual:
Code:
CAUTION: Do not reuse the original brake lamp
switch. This switch can only be adjusted once. That
is during initial installation of the switch. If the
switch is not adjusted properly or has been
removed for some service, a new switch must be
installed and adjusted.
So... Is there someway to re-route without messing with the switch???
Just went out and looked in my '04 (Build Date 6/04) and this appears to
have been fixed in newer SRT-4s. The floor board bends just below the mounting for the harness and the wires and harness are recessed enough where they're clipped in so that the clutch pedal arm, when fully depressed, barely touches the top of the electrical-tape covered harness.
Seems good to me.

My 04 build date (04/04) has a little bit of a recess where the floorboard comes out a bit before it ends near the top of the clutch. The clutch arm still appears to rub a little bit but it dosent seem to smash the wires completely. i only have 700 miles on it, so you can bet im going to keep an i on it in the future.
shit.. i pick up my 04 SRT-4 today in about 20 mins from typing this msg.. i'll check it out. But is there anyway to do this wihtout TOUCHING the brake switch?
EDIT - so yah mine has that same problem.. and i dont know what the BRAKE SWITCH is.. im going to push my cable to the left like everyone says to do. and zip chord this bitch. I pray i dont meet with this infamous BRAKE SWITCH i hear about.
2nd EDIT - ok i'm really scared.. am i allowed to just remove these clamps which are holding the wire down?
Any solution to the issue with reinstalling the brake switch? Anyone who has fixed this had any problems with brakes since? Would it be simpler just to take it to the dealer, point out the issue and have them rewire it? It seems like a 5 minute fix even with swapping out a new switch.
