Same here... but with 2nd and 3rd. And sometimes 1st, but rarely.
Yes...I've felt like a huge knob, even though I've driven standard for years, and all kinds, BUT how come this damn thing won't engage (and grind against for a moment) into 2nd gear (and I think sometimes/rarely into 3rd) even though I have the clutch pedal all the way to the floor?????
My biggest concern is that there is now damage to gear surfaces in the trans, and metal circulating inside????
Should I be preparing for battle...and take this to the dealer as a warranty issue?????
Maybe they will tell me I am a freak driver, and to get an automatic car
Do I have a legitimate warranty claim with this????
I'll certainly print off this thread and use when i approach them....Has anyone had to do this already???
i noticed you actually have to remove the cable bundle from the plastic "snap-buckle" holding it. now, i would need to put something on the floorboard, so that the clutch doesnt make direct contact against the floorboard over time. i'll take a trip to the hw store & look around.
in the mean time, if anyone has anything that comes to mind, dont forget to say where it can be purchased and part # if available.
I just checked mine and sure enough. The wire was almost bare. The tape had been worn off and was on its way to copper.
I pulled the two plugs and tucked the wire to the left.
But looking closer, the braided part was also being wedged by the pedal. This doesn't look like it will be so easy to redo.
Either way, Dodge should come up with a fix for this. I've gone through two clutches as have others. Is this related? Maybe the clutch pedal not being fully engaged could do it...
Is there any way to bring this to Dodge's attention?
I'm beginning to have a possible clutch problem, and a notchyness.
I'll have to take a look tomorrow. If it's bare wire, wouldn't it need to be replaced?
A banged up brake light wire won't have anything to do with notchy shifting. It could make your brake lights come on in between shifts, but thats about it.
Unless someone wants to tell me that the brake lamp circuit does something to the tranny..
As in somthing like wires and sound deading stopping you from completely pressing the clutch pedel all the way in.
Yep, not brain surgeory here. Stick your head in the door and try to shut it.
What? It won't shut? Why not? Just meaning, sometimes the car doesn't want to go in gear, so off the clutch, and back on it. Possibly the first time the wire was the culprit.
The brake lights, eh. My guess is people are getting that from wearing into the wire?

lilviper said it best, "saw that about a month ago when i installed my remote start. i just moved the wire.. zipties are your friend. to remove the brake switch wiring harness you have to remove the brake switch.. it takes a 1/4 turn to the left.. then it comes right out.."
Do that and just wrap it infront of the clutch pedal then toss some zipties on it or some electrical tape! If you have any problems in the future just swap it back around and take it to the dealer.

Investigated mine today - same thing. Clutch pedal banging into the cabling. Removed the harness by twisting counter-clock 1/4 turn and re-routing in front of the clutch and zip-tying... however the words "DO NOT RE-INSTALL" are boldly printed on the harness... hope that means nothing
The clutch pedal looks like it stops on a little rubber stopper above in the area above the pedal. Did I use the word pedal too many times? Sure seems like it.
But yeah... for all the brilliance I've seen in designing this car, who's the guy on crack who put the cable there?! And not only that, but plastic bolted it in?

I moved mine the other day and now shifting is a lot smoother. No more notchy shifting. No more not being able to put into 2nd or 3rd gear. Only a bit notchy when the car is cold, after that, it's working fine. You first have to unclip the wiring from it's harness up above and behind the brake pedal. To do this you have to take out the pink safety clip which can be pulled toward you to come out, maybe use some needle nose pliers to get it out, then you have to wiggle the wiring clip out of the harness as it hits above when trying to remove. it comes out eventually. zip tie it to the wires on the left after you have brought it over the clutch pedal and have replugged into its harness again. works fine now. Good luck.
