My battery went dead so I replaced it with a new battery. I cranked the car and it started fine. I let it run for a little while and shut it off. After a little while I tried to start it again. When I turned the key to the on position the interior light went off along with the door chime. I tried to crank it and it wouldn't do anything. No sound at all. I turned the key off and I checked the cables and they seemed fine. I went to crank it again and it made a clicking sound like the battery was dead. The needles on the gauges moved all the way to the right and then back to the left before settling in the proper position. Then the turn signals started flashing like the hazard button was pushed. I tried to crank it again and it started making clicking noises again and the dash lights and interior lights started flashing but it still wouldn't crank. I checked some of the fuses and they all seemed fine. I disconnected the battery and hooked it back up but it didn't make a difference. I tried this two or three times with the same results. I double checked and the positive and negative is connected to the proper posts. Any idea where to start looking?
I haven't load tested it. That was the reason I went back out and tried to crank it again. I was going to take it to the parts store to have it tested. When it was running, everything seemed normal. No lights on the dash or anything. It wasn't until I went back to crank it again that everything started messing up. I can see if the battery is dead it wouldn't crank. What I don't understand is the lights flashing for no reason and gauges doing what they did. I had to disconnect the battery to get the lights to stop flashing.
