Dealer Problems
I decided to post this here just to warn people of what can happen, I don't think the dealer that I got it from can help me anymore, but from this experience I will be telling anyone to steer clear of getting a used car from this dealership.
Roberson Motors in Salem, OR sold me a used 2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4 that was highly modded. I was told the car was in perfect running condition, was just burning a little oil, the car sales man told me that it was probably the chrome piston rings weren't seated or the cylinder walls were not cross hatched.
I bought the car AS-IS but I got the dealers service plan under the condition that it covered the aftermarket parts on the car. I told the guy that wanted to sell me the warranty to check with his manager to see if it would cover the parts. He came back and told me "The warranty will cover the car PLUS ALL THE PERFORMANCE MODIFICATIONS TO DATE on the vehiicle"
Well first day I had the car was driving a shit load, I mean this was the nicest car I have owned in my life (I'm only 18) I put like 300 miles on it in 2 days giving people test rides and enjoying it.
Two days later after buying the car it was burning so much oil, I'm talking a quart of 1030 every 50 miles. And the car was breaking up at 4300rpm under load. Unacceptable.
I went back to the dealership to tell them about my discrepancies and told them I would like it to be serviced because I paid $2,400 to have a full warranty on the vehicle. They told me it would take 30 days for the warranty paperwork to be processed and that they couldn't do any work on the car until the 30 days was up but then they told me to come back down after he talked with his manager about the situation.
I went back down to the dealer the next day and he said there is no way to use the warranty before the 30 days and that they weren't going to cover the issue. The way he explained it to me was that the warranty company will try and find a way out of repairing the car by saying it was the aftermarket parts that made the car fail. Then the dealership offered me a $200 check, I explained to the guy I was talking to that $200 will barely get the car looked at and he said that was all they could do. At that time there was no one that could endorse the check from the dealership so I would have to come back.
After the dealership telling me personally that the warranty would not cover the service on the vehicle I canceled it to get my $2,400 credited back to the loan of the car.
Then I took the car to a reputable mechanic that the salesman referred me to that works on SRT-4's here in town. After he cracked open the car he told me that it only had a stock head gasket on it, I was told and have paperwork on the modifications list that it had a DCR 5 Layer Head Gasket. And that I was going to need new pistons because the top end was blown out, I ordered the pistons ($430) when those came in he re-measured everything and told me that the bore was .003 off the stock bore and that was above the threshold of the Wiseco pistons. He said that he would buy the pistons off of me for the cost that I paid minus shipping. I said that was fine and ordered them in .020 bore. I still do not have the car in my driveway and its now the 15th of November, I purchased the car on the 28th of October.
I went back down to the dealership to talk to a manager, I was talking with one of the owners of Roberson Motors and after I explained him everything he came back with a $300 check. The $300 check was all they could do apparently. I told him that I was offered a $200 check when I thought the repairs including labor were going to cost $500-$700 and now I'm almost TWO GRAND into repairs and mechanic labor and $300 was not going to help me much, he told me that was all they could do.
On top of the basic repair costs I had to get Rod bearings ($30) and a stock head gasket set ($65) and an oil pan gasket ($30) and having the engine bored out ($$) PLUS the labor costs for the mechanic.
I know that after this is rebuilt I will have a good running car that will last me a long time but seriously, for taking a pride in your reputation it really doesn't seem like they cared that much about their famous "pride".
I wrote this up pretty quick if you want elaboration on anything just ask, I may also forward a link to this thread to the dealership.
