Best Wastegate problem ever
I was tinkering with my car today, working with a leak tester. My car has been running a consistent 13psi never more. I wanted to fix that. I hook the leak tester up to find no leaks. I clean up my driveway, tighten some things up a little more and head out for a drive, curious to see if I did make a difference with out finding anything(I am pretty deaf and didn't pay close enough attention).
I start up my car and it sounded a bit weird, a little hiss but nothing crazy. I let it slide, not thinking to much about it. I go up my road and flood it in first and the boost went up over 10psi, I thought it was odd but okay. I get onto a main road and give it gas and short shift into second and then really get on it while watching the boost gauge. The second i floored it the gauged climed to over 20psi. I nearly shit myself, knowing enough about the car I coasted home and didn't floor the car again( don't want to blow it up).
I got home rechecked every connection to find nothing. I reattached the leak tester and this time some nasty hissing coming from the top of the intake. Low and behold the two black lines (one from the TB and the other going to the wastegate) looked melted and had 1/4" cracks in them. The wireloom that was covering the lines was melted as well. I have no idea how it happened the lines never contacted anything hot while working on the car it was cold. I am just glad nothing blew up. Thought I'd share my darwin moment. Careful of those lines I am still trying to figure out how they melted.
