Default ams bottom end, need feedback from users.

Like the title says. I've got an AMS bottom end with 8.8:1 wisecos and eagle rods and I'm getting alot of knock on my scan gauge. Some could be false but no way of really knowing yet. I'ma try trimming my dumbtube this week so its definitely not touching the frame, to eliminate that possibility. It did seem to be doing decent. My scan gauge was showing about 6kr on 20 psi and straight 93pump which wasnt too bad to me considering on the stock motor with a smaller turbo, I got about 5-6kr on 20 psi and pump. This was with the afrs in the mid to high 10's though with the new motor, and them in the mid 11's on the stock motor. Now today I decided Id turn the boost down to 15 to be a little more safe until I hook the meth up. Well I went riding and I did a 3rd gear pull after the car had warmed up, well seemed kr was around 6 for a few pulls, then I did a few more and noticed it was showing 12kr in 3rd gear, I was like wtf. This is with the boost on only 15 psi and me not pulling anymore fuel out from where the fuel was set for the 20 psi I had the car on previously. The knock sensor is tq'd to about 12 ft lbs. I've been told the wisecos are horrible for causing detonation, then again ams and other people stand behind them, saying they're great. Id just like to hear from some other users of the AMS basic bottom end. Thanks

That doesnt help me a whole lot.

False knock isnt anything new. I'm very sure alot of it is that. I'll know more when I cut the dumptube off some so its not hitting the frame anymore.

Anyone with feedback, say someone who has this motor? everyone else who has no real help can gladly stay out.

toss some race gas in and check it out.

could be gas, spark plug gappage, etc.

i honestly think its due to the 8.8:1 piston compression. pump gas + big turbo + high cyl pressure + moderate amount of boost = KR.

whats your timing like?

I havent had a chance to get any 110, last time I went, the place was out. I havent checked the timing on the scangauge if thats what you mean. Timing on the gears is zeroed out on both intake and exhaust cams. I expect to get some kr with the higher compression, but that doesnt explain why it would go from 6kr on 20 psi to 12 kr on 15 psi. I'm hoping somethings throwing the knock sensor off. My dumbtube is against my downpipe and also a good chance its touching the frame at the bottom. I'ma try trimming it but it so it doesnt touch the frame but its still gonna be against the downpipe. I went out there today and turned the boost back up to 20psi, I'll see how kr looks on the way to work tomorrow.

have u pulled the plugs to see what they look like. what plugs are you using? i love how everyone treats 8:8.1 like it is 12:5.1 pistons in there. 8:8.1 is fine. "I've been told the wisecos are horrible for causing detonation"- like swapping to JE's will magically make the detonation go away. what u using to tune? how about u give a run down of the set up? have u called AMS it is there motor. i say something on your part.

I assume because of the increased compression?

sounds like what happened to my ams motor. imo i got screwed by them and ripped off at that. i had to build the motor yet again after i sent it to them 2 times and it blowing up twice. on top of it all all the components they put in my head were the wrong size and fitment. head was trashed and pistons melted. dont buy an ams motor is the bottom line. unless you wanna rebuild it again shortly after.

dont get 8.8:1 pistons.

youll end up running MAX 19psi on pump.

8.3:1 is the max id go for our situation.

with the 8.8.1 compression you can't run more that 17-19psi on pump.
these pistons you will have to run a standalone so you can run more boost safely. basically these pistons are for if you going ems and built motor.
i had these pistons too and i sold them because i wanted to run more safely on pump. i felt a huge difference in down low power over the stock compression. I started looking towards my future with the car and i decided to go with a compression that wouldn't force me to pull the motor if i wanted to sell the car.

weisco pistons are the best off the shelf pistons. even dcr and arronneon said they are.
