So, the speed dependent DAB works. I tried it out with some standard settings of 30 MPH and 60 MPH.
I still managed to spin my tires in DAB 0 in 1st, but I was going slightly uphill. 2nd gear stuck nicely in DAB 1, though. I think I short shifted 2nd gear, so DAB 3 didn't come on until a bit into 3rd gear, but that's just an adjustment that can be made once you figure out your shift points.
I also tried stuff like DAB 0.5 and DAB 1.5, but they didn't work. It picked one or the other. Oh well, no linear boost control for us, at least this time around....
B.t.w. The WOT Box is pretty damn awesome. I tried that out a few times too... But damn, I'm a slow shifter... Gotta work on that...
lol
I want DAB5! dang it!
good job phrozen! thanks for keeping us posted!

Speed dependent DAB settings - With the optional wheel speed sensor wire installed, the Toybox 2.0 can be user programmed to set different DAB settings depending on what speed the car is traveling
1. Have function abilities like 1.0 (completely manual)
2. Be able to adjust it to kick into a certain DAB @ any speed I want and go down DAB settings depending on speed too.
3. Make it to be manual/automatic functioning.
I will buy.

Ha, I don't think I ever saw that post. But, cool. That's what it does. You have complete control over what speed it kicks from DAB 0 --> 1 and DAB 1 --> 3. You'll also be able to set at what speed it kicks back from DAB 3 --> 1 and 1 --> 0 on deceleration.
I'm also putting a similar feature in for HOM, so that you can have HOM kick in at a certain speed as well. I haven't tried that yet, but I'm pretty sure it will work too.
You will be able to switch from automatic to manual mode. By default it will ship in the manual mode. There is a menu system you go through to turn it on or off and set up all the parameters.
I'm working on making the menu system as intuitive as possible. I think its going to be very reasonable. I'll post some docs soon as its done.
So, I had some interesting ideas last night.... Check out this data... It's a very ugly accel from 0 - 60 because I missed the shift into 4... I wanted to get a lot of gears... But anyway, look at the part around the top of 1st gear... Guess what data I have....

I've got RPM, MAP, Front wheel speed and Rear wheel speed, all with one wire. I also have boost control. What would you do if you had all of that stuff?

uh....make something fun that works with my S1 pcm?
season is almost over! but I know the special $$ is not forever.
We'll keep the special open for some time after we launch the product.
I think the wait will be well worth it. I was going to launch the product with the speed sensor based DAB, but then I had some ideas and went looking on the OBD bus... Now we have RPM, MPH and MAP... That will make our gear detection algorithm much better.
Unfortunately, it seems like the rear wheel speed was a red herring. Once I improved my data collection it turned out to be just another copy of the front wheel speed sensor. Oh well... Maybe some other time...
But anyway, I have a few more tricks up my sleeve... I'll let you know what they are once I confirm they work.
and remember, here in AZ we are just entering race season, so if you need a tester in the middle of winter....
Winter??!! Crap. I want this done this week!
I think I've nailed down the feature set that is going to be in it. I just need to clean up the code and test it. Then we should be good to go.
The gear detection logic is working great. I drove around with it displaying what gear I was in and it was spot on. It even predicted my shifts a little bit..
My idea for finely controlled boost didn't pan out so well.... The PCM didn't like it very much:
I was trying to hold 10 psi, which is not one of the DAB choices... Oh well.
So, the final speed dependent DAB will allow you to set what DAB setting you want in each gear. No need to mess around with MPH thresholds. Just program the box for the DAB setting you want for each gear and the box will do it.
