Woot! New Toybox Prototype Pictures!

DAB indicator:

HOM LED on!:

Sorry, there won't actually be a DAB 5. That's just the first number it came up on.

What do you guys think?

I imagine where the stock toys go? You might need to get creative there.

The HOM LED is at the top corner so you should be able to see from the front or top of the box. That way you can see it if you mount it down low somewhere. I may try making it a different color so it is easier to distinguish from the blue light of the display.

The button will control all those new features... Somehow. I haven't programmed them yet. I just soldered up the first one tonight. But, I'll work on that next.

either one, but to be honest, i'd like the one on the right for nighttime driving..I think this little number might get mounted by the dash...so might match stock display better, and not blind you to boot!

^^^ hes right. bright blue lights are more distracting and bad on the eyes for focusing.

That's true. However, what you're looking at in the pictures is peak brightness. I'm going to dim the displays after about 5-10 seconds of inactivity because the power supply gets pretty hot with the displays on continuously at full brightness.

I did torture test it yesterday in a parked car in 95 degree weather in full sun and it kept working at full brightness with no problems, but I think the dimming is still a good idea.

So, while you are pushing buttons and setting things, the display will be full on so that you can see the display, even in direct sunlight. Once you are done with settings it will dim down into a run mode that shouldn't blind you at night.

Unfortunately, I don't have any way of dimming the HOM LED as well, since the PCM is driving that.... hmmm...

I like the DAB speed indicator a LOT. I can defintely see how that'd defintely help me out on the track - a LOT!

Question is are you gonna give current toybox owners a good discount for the toybox 2.0/

Actually, that's a very good idea. Your kit will be easy since you won't need a new wiring harness. We'll just ship you the new Toybox plus a connector and pins. You will just cut off the old Toybox, attach the connector pins to the old harness and then mate the connector to the new Toybox. The wiring will remain mostly the same, except that the 5V sensor power will no longer be needed. Instead, we will re-use that wire for the vehicle speed sensor.

So, if you want that feature, you'll also need to make a quick change under the hood. If you don't care about that feature, you can leave it hooked up just the way it is.

I'll discuss with Jay what price we will offer the upgrade at...

Yeah, the display dims. It's only on full brightness while you are pushing the button and for 10 seconds afterwards.
