I just finished my grad school applications yesterday, so now I can get back to work on this. It is full speed ahead.
I have to do some code cleanup and some more detailed testing. I will post as I complete these tasks. Once the testing is done we should be ready for production.
Thanks everyone for your patience. I have just been too busy these last 2 months to really work on this. But not anymore!
It will eliminate the automatic transmission failure codes that are present in S2 w/ toys and all forms of S3. Since this product is only meant for off-road use, it is only to prevent the codes from being annoying. They have no impact on the functionality of the car and they just plain don't make sense. So, we solve the problem or hide it so it doesn't bother you any more.
However, if you read through the documentation referenced in my link, you will notice that many of the state inspection programs now incorporate an OBD test. In most of them, if you have any failure codes, you will fail inspection, regardless of if they make sense or not.
We can't recommend that you use our product for that purpose.
And we can't wait to start shipping them. But, we're going to make sure the product is the best it can be before we do.
Basically, I'm just doing code cleanup now. Making sure it is reliable and robust.
Next will be some more thorough testing.
If all goes well, we'll be ready to roll on the new design. If not, we fall back to the old design, which is already well proven and works perfectly, it just costs more and is more difficult to build, heavier, bulkier, uses more power, etc, etc, etc...
Of course, by bulky, I mean its about the size of a cell phone instead of the size of my car key... :-)
Sounds good. Now if I could just finish the code... So far a solid week of 2am nights writing code... Got a good amount of it done, but there's still more.... bah.
The new product name is probably going to be the "Automatic Transmission Code Scrubber (ATCS)". It works a bit different than the Automatic Transmission Simulator, and I will detail the differences in a new post. But, for now I will describe it as a device the removes error codes related to an automatic transmission (p0700 - p0899) from only vehicles that are an SRT-4.
It is very specific, and verifies the VIN number as an SRT-4 and only removes automatic transmission failure codes (p0700 - p0899). Other codes will pass through.
So, technically, it shouldn't do anything, since the SRT-4 was never offered with an automatic transmission....
Anyway, I've been up late every night for about 2 weeks writing code for the ATCS. The code is nearly complete and is working well.
My goal is to finish the code and testing on my car by Friday. That weekend I will get some real world verification on someone else's car. If that goes well, I will kick off the hardware order for 100 units that week.
Unfortunately, the hardware order will take about 4 weeks to come in. But, after that we just build and ship units.
So, we're targeting first shipments around March 15th.
I should also ask which product you would prefer. I am confident at this point that I can make either one work.
The transmission simulator fixes the problem, but will cost $215 + refundable core charge. (You have to mail in your block-off connector)
The code scrubber will cost $119 and have no core charge, but it only hides the problem.
The results on a scan tool are the same with either device.

If the end result is the same: That is if someone wanted to check for error codes and make sure that no auto-trans codes showed up. Then I think the answer is pretty straightforward. I will take the one that is cheaper.

Yes. The result is the same. Your scan tool will report 0 codes if you only have automatic transmission failures. If you have other codes, all bets are off. All error codes will be reported.
But, the device will indicate this with a Flashing LED and give you the opportunity to try and clear them with the button. If they come back, you've got a real problem and you need to fix it.
So, what exactly is the advantage of going w/ the more expensive one? I will be ordering one of the two, my tags are up at the end of March and they just started OBD testing in my area. If they are shipping on the 15th then it will be close, but I should make it. Where do I send pmt?
There isn't much advantage to the more expensive one. It just fixes the problem instead of hiding it. But, it's not a problem that affects the functioning of the car, so it doesn't really matter.
Anyway, payment info is in the first post. I would suggest waiting until we know for sure which device we will be producing. That should be the end of this week. Then you will know how much $$ to send.
