Okay so I went to buy a new cable that came with a program CD...Installed the USB software....With High hopes I went to the car, and what do you know....Same crap.....I dont want to give up but this is sucks.....Im going to try one last thing....POWER, where did you guys hook up the RED wire from the FTM which is the power wire....I hooked it up to the same wire I had the SAFC wired to.....SO please I need feed-back...I called PTP but no answer so Im relieing on you guys......has anyone had this problem....
there are no options in the drop down menu? I know that when I start my FTM software, it shows no ports, but once I click on the down arrow, I have two options. If the FTM isn't showing any ports at all, I would say it was your computer, not the software. Your windows shows the software how many COM Ports are available.
I don't think you should drive your car if the unit isn't working. I mean, as long as the FTM has power, it will send the MAP signal to the PCM without any changes, so it would work. But if the unit isn't getting any power, then no MAP signal will get sent at all. I don't think you got a different FTM computer, I think it's just a port conflict with your computer.
If you go into "My Computer" on your destkop, then into computer settings, you should be able to find a icon in there that will get you to be able to see all the ports available on you computer, and be able to reasign them. What version of windows are you running?
If you think power is an issue run your power wire directly to the battery and see if it works. Actually I ran mine to the pdc under the hood. Every now and then when I plug mine up to my laptop it thinks its finding a mouse, so my port is being used and the FTM doesn't see. So as soon as I go to device manager and delete this mouse it thinks I plugged up. My port number is back and it works fine. You might be having a similar problem.
does it ask you if you want to search for drivers for the device? If it does, click yes, then click browse by specific location, the select the cd that came with the unit. There should be a folder in there that says drivers, or Windows XP\NT. The driver for the device should be in there. After that restart the computer, and the next time you plug the unit in, it shouldn't say anything. You should here it just beep, then nothing.
If that works, then just plug the unit into the FTM, start the software, and you should, should, have a couple Port options to use. Not sure how it will end up numbered for yours, but on mine, I have port 4 and 5 as on option, and my USB to serial adapter is port 5.
