Default New to the srt4 and site. Want power!!

I have a stock srt4 with the BOV conversion kit. I'm looking to start modifying it and don't know where to start. I was looking at the wastegate actuator, and was wondering how much that helps? Do I have to get the map clamp if I do the actuator? If I get a boost controller and start raising the boost, will the wastegate actuator hold the boost if I raise it to 18 psi, or should I just get an aftermarket wastegate for when I start uping the boost higher than that?

It totally depends on how much do you actually want as far as hp wise. The bov plate is okay as long as it doesnt leak. There are alo tof people who say it leaks others say it doesnt. Just make sure they arent any leaks on it and you should be straight. The wastegate just allows you to adjust your boost aswell has hold your boost a little better to red-line without dropping off but there are some pros and cons depending on which wastegate you use for example

agp's standard wastegate allows more boost but some prefer to take it off the computers control which regulates the boost to make sure that the driver doesnt go all buckwild and boost to where-ever and in-turn hurting the motor this is where the dependability comes into play.

The computer controls the boost by fighting back with the amount of boost it sees it it goes over the limit it does all kinds of shit like retard the timing making the car slower than usual.

Now if you add the wastegate and you take it off pcm controlled boost you actually have to delete and re-route some of the vacuum-lines that go to the solinoids which the computer gets it readings from to readjust itself.

With that in mind once you re-route and delete some of the vacuumlines off the solinoids it will cause ptb(part-throttle-boost). Ptb is when you drive regular and it goes into boost a bit earlier than usual. This can be slightly harmful considering the fact that we have an already small stock turbo to begin with which causes compressor surge.

Its when the All the boost gets backfed into the turbo, causing compressor surge. .... flutter because the turbo spools up too quickly under part throttle conditions and before you know it your turbo's life will be shortened overtime.

The forwardmotion wastgate allows you to raise boost and and not have part throttle boost issues. It gives you the best of both worlds. If your getting into the mapclamp thing make sure you atleast have a wideband to properly tune it. The boost will raise to 18 where you set it at but it wont hold. Being that the stock turbo is so small it will rise but it will eventually lower to 16psi.

Sorry if I frustrate anyone, but I'm still a little confused about the whole vacuum line, and PCM stuff. So if I do the FM WGA it'll spike 18, and hold at 16? Can I just put the FM WGA on, and spike 18, hold 16, or do I have to do some vacuum stuff, and or PCM stuff? Basically what I want to know is, if I want to have higher boost, and hold a higher boost, do I only need the FM WGA, or do I also have to do other stuff with the FM WGA? Again, sorry if I seem stupid about all this, I just want to do it right because I really like my car. It's my first turbo'd car.

Like what was stated it all depends on your goals. there is so many different routes you can go with your car. If u want to stay stock turbo for a while, my advice would be to get either needswings dp, or 3in TBE. wga, and then a diablosport tuner.

There is a 300whp write up on here, its good, and it list all the mods needed. I would stay away from the map clamp, ive heard some bad things about them. more power dosn't mean more boost nessicarly, i would advise a wideband before you mess with any boost levels, just to be safe. and remember u can create all the power in the world, but whats the point if you cant get it to hook up.

i have the agp and i boost 19 and hold 15 so i dont see you hittin 18 and holdin 16 you will have to mess with some vac lines. my agp does get PTB pretty bad though so you may want to try a different brand its the only one i have used from there go with a 3 inch exhaust (turbo back) and an intake. you dont have to have a map clamp if you raise boost but i would suggest some kind of tuning device but you can run with out it i did for a long time but to answer your question yes you can run the WGA without any other mods if you need any more help PM me
