if you have no cat you will throw a cat efficiency code every once and a while, and that will not effect your driving make sure you have factory plugs and wires and that the plugs are gaped right. our motors are very sensitive to different plugs are wires. dont use any dielectric grease or any of that crap. if you still have problems look into the coil pack or an o2 sensor.

I've been having this same issue for a while now. The car kinda starts huffin-and-puffin while you're gassing it. Sometimes it responds, sometimes it doesn't. I've even had to pull off to the side of the road to almost let it catch its breath..lol
I do have a blown gasket, but the damage seems minimal. i hate to think that tiny leak is freakin the car out. I've concluded it's most likely a fuel issue, and that prob my stock fuel pump is taking a shit, so i'm buying the Walbro 255 tomorrow and putting it in hoping it'd resolve the issue. If not, then im going to assume it's the tps, and then move to other things. What is the rewiring mod that helped someone? Can anyone fetch me a link???

PS- I DO i have my cats and i'm also throwing P0420

Put in some new Iridium plugs, checked my MSD wire with a volt meter (very low resistance), same problems.

Anyone figured this out yet?
I'm thinking it's either the coil, or a sensor like the O2.

Something similar to this happened to me every once and a while when I was completely stock. I would be in 2nd gear at low rpm's, just normally accelerating and the car felt like it was limping up to about 2500 rpm. I never tried flooring it when this happened or giving it much more gas but it was noticeable and kind of annoying. Like I said, it didn't happen a whole lot...maybe once every few weeks. Ever since I got my s2 kit on early this year, it hasn't happened at all. I actually forgot about the occurences until just reading this.

Hmm, if it went away after S2 install, I wonder if it could be 1 or more of the stock fuel injectors.
Car feels like it's drowning in fuel, and the cat sounds like it too, wonder if a FI is freezing open briefly.

I'd think that would throw a CEL, but that's just a guess.

here is some good news for you folks since i started this thread, i may as well help narrow this down. I sold my car about a month back but before i sold it i ran into a strange little problem other than this.

I was driving along and all of a sudden my check engine light is flashing at me, and i go ok.. wtf? i know that when it flashes u should stop what ur doing and pull over so i did that and popped the hood and smelt like a burnt oil or burning oil/gas mixture... and i was like shit im to far from home so i tried to drive a little further and there was no chance in hell i could drive it home cause it got worse... what happened to me was i had engine code for cylinder 4 failure or wahtever it was... something like that and what happened was injector #4 stuck open and poured fuel and oil into the system mixing everything.. it was nasty... it also blew out spark plug #4 and compression in piston 4 was at 90...

after all that happened i had to get towed and i ended up having to get a new stock fuel injector and a new spark plug and EVER since i fixed that injector the car ran about 15 times better and i never got any of these issues anymore. to be completly honest i think this problem is fuel injector related.... i never would have even checked or thought about changing out or looking at my injectors if this little incident didnt happen to me. if i were u had u have this type of issue check your injectors just for shits and giggles there may be some issues there.

i am of course 05 with the S1 injectors but i still think if your running mods and over 15 psi boost u should really look into S2 injectors just for overall good measure. I remember when i was tuning my car we ran into all sorts of issues with the car not pulling enough fuel etc... installing a fuel pump rewire etc etc, and we ended up with putting a 62 MM TB on and wasnt pulling enough fuel with the amount of airflow the TB was putting out... i just think u should replace the factory injectors when you can.. i certainly dont trust them after what happened to me.

and this of course is just my case of a probable fix there may be different cases for other people, but i did this and was very pleased with how my car ran afterwords and just decided to sell it in a good state.

you sir are a smart guy i believe that this is the issue of the injector sticking partially open for a short time causing the car to take a shit. but if u get to the point of where i was at it will stay stuck open

oh and if you let it go long enough trust me youll get a CEL like i did

Yes for me the injector solved my problems after i did all of this stuff below

a couple things to check if you havent done this.

1. Check your air filter, i know its easy to forget and overlook it.

2. Check your Fuel filter. i pulled mine out at 44k miles for a first time change ever and it was hella dirty if your over 30k miles u should probably get it replaced.

3. check voltage out of the coilpack/plug wires

4. check voltage on your TPS sensor wiring.

There is a thread also that covers a lot of this stuff for routine maintence writen by ptperformance i believe i forget where its found but i followed that thread and it helped smooth a few bumps out for me on my car

I had all my sensors checked when i did this.. cam sensor, upstream o2 sensor etc these were not the issues of this problem.
