Do a search on the forum for Boomba third generation bov. Boomba has posted 3 sound clips of the bov.

Sounds to me almost as if the BOV isn't opening, and the horse sound you're hearing is the turbo fluttering/surging. You should hear a nice crisp release of air, not a surge.

Agreed, in the videos provided by boomba vendor the release sounds smooth no fludder/horse noise.

In the thread i just read Boomba BOV Review and Testing (pics and videos)

his also fludders like mine. Reading the thread, replys have said that the fluddering noise is 100% normal.

Did you hook this BOV up to the stock pink line? If so, you need to re-route it directly to a vacuum source, and bypass the stock BOV solenoid altogether.

The stock recirc valve has a very weak spring in it, and if you are running a 12 - 13 psi spring in the Boomba BOV, it's likely there is not enough vacuum present to open the valve, due to the vacuum having to travel through such a long distance of small diameter tubing, not to mention, I believe the solenoid in and of itself is fairly restrictive.

Just run a line straight from the intake manifold vacuum source to the BOV, and you should be good.

When did you buy the BOV? I purchased mine about 2 weeks ago and just installed it today. It has that same fluttering sound. I think we need to email boomba and see what they say.

Thanks, that is interesting information. I was not aware that the Boomba BOV required it's own manifold source rather than the PCM controled Pink Line. I think there may also be another reason why the Boomba BOV is causing compressor surge in some cases. It may be sticking.

Until recently, my car had a Boomba BOV with the 19# spring. It was connected to the Pink line. I removed the unit because after a year or so, it stopped going off at all. My car was getting crazy compressor surge and it was getting progressively worse.

When I removed the unit from the car and disassembled it, I noticed how it was sticking even without the spring in place. I lubed it with a little 3-in-1 and that helped alot. But after a few days of sitting on my desk at room temp, the 3-in-1 started to dry out and the unit began sticking again.

I ended up concluding that the brass piston fit was too tight and was not a smooth fit against the aluminium body of the BOV. A little like the old Amal Monoblock carbs on motorcycles, although they had petrol to lube them a little. And in both cases, the brass piston was scored a little from contact with the aluminium.

Also the location of the Boomba BOV immediatly adjacent to the hot turbo makes it more likely that any lube will soon dry out.

None of what I just said is intended to bash Boomba. They offered to repair the unit but I decided not to to pursue it since the uninstall/reinstall is not a very satisfying task.

My car has been fine since reverting to the stock surge valve. It holds up fine to the 21PSI S3R boost, don't let anyone kid you. And it's nice and quiet.

I just installed mine on Friday with the middle sized spring. I can't access youtube at work, so I'll check out your video when I get home after school later tonight. I'll let you know if mine sounds similar.

I received an email from boomba sales telling me that the sound is normal. I still have concerns with its performance. I also went back to the stock surge valve until i have more time to play with it. I am wondering if the stock 4psi spring will react differently in the booma bov?
