At the end of Saturday, there was a blue SRT4 hood left behind at the track. We waited around to see if anyone was going to pick it up, and nobody did. We figured someone must have bought a new hood at the event and either didn't have room to take the old one home, or they just didn't want it anymore.
Being the inventive scavengers that we are ....
We stuck a www.turbo-mopar.com decal on it, and we all signed it at our dinner (about 45 of us) on Sunday evening.
So whoever left this hood behind, Thank You. You can know that it is alive and well, and I think it is residing in the Chicago area now.
Of course, it doesn't surprise me to find SDAC guys stuck in the trash barrels with their feet sticking out, but it always makes me wonder, 'Who would throw a away a perfectly good SDAC guy?'
It somehow found it's way into Rick Snyder's truck. He wasn't gonna take it home so left it in that small grass area to be reclaimed or just claimed. Nice find.
Wow that sucks!!!! Can I ask why you would decal it, sign it, and give it away rather then posting on these forums or asking one of the event organizers about it first???
The owner did contact me after Nationals asking if I had it. I didn't know anything about it and it wasn't my hood, so I left it behind when I left Saturday night. Turns out it was left in my truck for a reason, just nobody bothered to tell me about it. I just PM'd the owner the link to this thread.
So thats what happened to my hood. That blows guys. I was hoping someone had picked it up and would post on here that they had come across it. I was hoping i would be able to pay the person that walked off with it to ship it back. I did buy a new hood from Carbon by Design. They are the ones that put it in Snyders truck. We were hoping he could bring it back to colorado for us but we never did run into him. We figured he still had it so didn't think to look around for it. When we got back sunday night i tried to get in touch with him and he told us what he had done with it. I got in touch with heartland park and they searched for it but couldnt find it. Now we know why!

I agree. Seems pretty weak to vanadlize something that you didn't even TRY to see if it belonged to anyone on here by posting prior to molesting that poor hood with graffiti when they know people have been geting back from the nats slowly but surely now.
I know I would never do something like that, much less without AT LEAST checking to see who's it was and if they did or didn't want it back in the FIRST place.
Way to go guys
I think SDAC should fix the hood to exactly how it was and send this man his hood back. How childish can grow men get these days? Look at Bevis and Butthead in the background on that one pick chuckling at their turn. Weak!
EDIT- reading all the wrote on the bottom of the post, I'd be worried now that they said they "think" it is residing in the Chicago area now. To me it sounds like they threw this shit away as soon as they were done molesting it. I hope not or else I think they should buy him a new hood or atleast put up a fund on SDAC to get him some of the money back.
"Hey look, there is a nice clean and shiney GLHS over there that's just sitting by some trailer and everyone has left. Let's go ask the trailer guy if he knows anything about it. He said nope so clearly someone must not want it . Ok, lets vandalize it!" woohoo!

Adults realize that if they don't take care of there things they will not be theres. Mark this one up to a learning lesson. If you care and want something keep track of it and make sure it is safe. I can't believe these guys are being hated on. Had i found it after everyone had left i would have turned it into a snow sled, be happy they found it and not me.

It would of been one thing had they attempted to at least post a thread saying "hey, we found this hood, is it anyones?"
But I'm searching and I just don't see that thread.
Maybe my maturity level is higher than others when it comes to things like that. That would explain why I just can't understand the reason behind doing this without as much as posting on the forums and asking beforehand. You see how quick we found out who's hood it was don't you? Obviously they would of had their answer in a day....had that had the decency to even post up and ask....
Mike, sorry for you hood loss. That sucks and i'd be pissed. Then again my hood would of personally left with me even if I had to strap it on top of the roof .

You would be pissed if you left your hood in someone elses rig, didn't tell them about it, and never checked again till you got home that maybe it also made the trip and someone found it and used it for what ever they wanted??????
WOW.
I am sorry to Mike that you didn't take care of your things and now they are someone elses things. Hard lesson to learn. But i am sure you have heard about that lesson before.
Randy
Like i said before we went to find Snyder to see if he could take the hood back for us but we didnt run into him. By the time we got back to the carbon by design tent they were gone. What were we supposed to do we had no idea they left it in snyders truck. If we knew it was missing we would have known to look for it but we had no idea. Some of you people have no morals thats like saying if a little kid doesnt lock up his bike before he goes into a store to buy candy someone can take it And you people would probably say its his fault for not locking it up. When really the person that took it is a thief because it didn't belong to them.

Grab some glasses. Do you have mine by chance?
CBD did tell someone with Snyders tema bout it.
Its just those with whoever on his team failed to tell Rick I'm assuming thus Rick he didn't know of it or why it was on there and put it outside the truck.
Is that Mikes fault? No. Is that CBDs fault? No. Is that Rick at Snyder Motorsports fault? No. Its a simply misunderstanding due to lack of informtion.
With that being said, does that give them anymore of a right to vandalize someone elses shit?
Why not the common courtesy of at least taking a few mintues to make a thread and wait it out for a few days to see if anyone would chime in? Obviously it took less than 2 hours to find out....
But whatever, we see how some of the people in this community and vendors are. Shame to see as I had different opinions until now....
None of my business but I would have to agree with Hak on this one. A simple thread or reach out to someone to see if the hood belonged to someone would have been nice. I could see if it was a left over mug or something else small but a perfectly good factory hood? Come on now, that's a slap in the face to play the "finder's keeper's" game.
NOBODY told me whose hood was in the bed of my truck. It was just me and my girlfriend at Nationals so it's not like I was there with a full team or anything. I came back from watching the drag eliminations on Friday to see it sticking out of my bed. No note, not information, NOTHING.
I walked around the entire paddock and looked for a blue SRT4 without a hood and didn't find one. There were a couple with newish looking carbon hoods, but I didn't know who's it might be. I had Dale make a PA announcement at 6:15pm and no luck. I finally left after 10pm when the drag finals were done, but I was heading back to CO in the morning. Since I didn't know if it was a joke, on purpose, or what, I thought it better to leave it as close to where my truck was as possible and I left.
A simple not saying "this hood was so-and-so's and they can't fit it in for the trip home, can you take it? there number is xxx" I would have been like, sure, no problem.
What else could I have done???
Rick

Where do you come up with this info?? You seam to read a lot more in these posts than anyone else does. I am sorry you lost your glass's and sorry this all happened, but that isn't going to change it.

Not sure what you mean by that, but what ever.
Rick i think you did the right thing. How where you to know anything. Had you left it in there we could have been reading a my hood stolen by guy in pickup thread.
Randy
I am sorry that it wasn't something unwanted, left behind, as we assumed. We were some of the last to leave the track on Saturday. Our guys drove around looking for a blue SRT4, and could not find any there. It was on the grass all by itself near a trash barrel.
What were we to think it was? Would any reasonable person leave without a hood they wanted? We had a lot of discussion about it, and decided hey, it makes a neat souvenir.
As I said in my original post, our guys are scavengers. We look for stuff like that. We DID NOT vandalize anybody's car. We DID NOT take anything that appeard to be more than trash. There was no malice intended.
Why didn't I post about the hood? I forgot all about it until someone asked on another forum if there were any pics of the hood available. Then I remembered some I had seen. And I posted to this forum.
But the real question is, why didn't the owner post a "Did anybody find my hood?" thread? I've been checking this forum every day since I've been back and no mention of it that I have seen. And there is a thread about who had stuff missing from the Nats, and there is no mention in that thread either.
So don't blame us for the fact that it was placed on the grass, where EVERYBODY had to drive past it to get off the grounds. A bright blue hood, on the grass. You almost had to have been blind to miss it. We checked as best we could to see if it was someone's that was still there, with no luck.
Now, why did we treat it as a souvenir? Because that is what we thought it was. If the hood had never been claimed here, some year at one of our events, when it was all forgotten, the hood would show up at and we would all have a laugh and reminisce about the good time we had with the SRT guys.
Our chapter has a fender from a K-car, that another chapter gave away as a funny door prize at our event 3 years ago. Some day they will get it back, it is a fun thing. Signing the hood was a fun thing too.
If the owner wants the hood back, I am certain it can be his again. I don't know if the Chicago guys will pay the shipping or not, but I do know it is there. There is no need to ask for a new hood or to cover the cost of repainting, as that is out of the question.
My email address is in my sig. Contact me privately if you want it back. Do not send me a PM.
Rick i think you did the right thing. How where you to know anything. Had you left it in there we could have been reading a my hood stolen by guy in pickup thread.

It means its nice to know there are other people out there who would do this. I joke around, but that is WAY out of my nature. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I guess both sides could be wrong in not making a thread but does that really justify it as ruining a perfectly good hood much less taking it in the first place? Mike said he called HPT. Surely if it was left behind like it could of been, someone would of found and it more than likely turned it in. But who knows right?
FYI, I've got a guys front clip here at my house that's been here for about a year now. The fact he hasn't came and picked it up doesn't give me the right to do with it what I wish. I haven't heard from my guy in well over 6 months and to be honest, I probably won't hear from him again. But you can bet your bottom dollar iit will be here waiting for him whenever he does call me, if he calls me. That's just how I am and how I treat peoples property that isn't mine in the first place.

Not to keep this going but that sort of contradicts itself doesn't it? One paragraph you say you forgot about it until someone mentioned it, then right after that in the next paragraph you say you came here checking the forum everyday sinc since being back for someone to mention the missing hood....
Mike, looks like you'll get your tagged hood back, maybe. Sucks but maybe it can be salavaged by some solvent to remove the marker signatures.
