I honestly didn't know when the car show was, where it was, or how it worked. IT was over and done with before I found any details... but then again, I didn't get any schedule/packet/info all week. And since we were next to kicker, the intercom system didn't work so hot for us.

The car show was all "week". It was just a wandering around kind of show without any real timeframe.
I liked the fact that I could choose to get judged during my "downtime" before or between events. I washed my car on Saturday morning, came to the track and put on the pretty tires/rims, then as soon as I pulled away from the judges I threw on the race tires and hit the autocross course. Only had the car all spiffied up for about one hour and then back to the track to abuse some more rubber.
Only thing I wasn't completely happy with was the vendor with the purpose built, all show no go car, was in the same class as I was. I understand they are participants too, but any car that looks like it could be (and may have been for all I know) at SEMA, should have it's own class.
Everyone *Should* have received a schedule at Registration Check-in. That didn't always happen, processes have been put in place for the 2007 event to make sure it does happen. I'm not happy about it either, I paid Kinkos $365 to print them, the least the Registrar could have done is hand them out...
We are making the website with more pictures so that people will actually look at the schedules and procedures online for what they are signing up for ahead of time. Also plan to do more mass mailings once the database is more friendly.
The Orange SRT-4 was not a vendor car. It belonged to a very good customer of a vendor. Some people build their cars to show, others buy cars that someone else built and put a lot of stickers on them. There will be a 'Pro' class next year that participants and vendors/sponsors can opt to enter if they choose. It will be an option though, and not a requirement.

Somehow (albeit I'm not sure how), I think that was aimed at me in particular. I could be wrong though.....
Granted we did buy a fairly complete car, and granted we put a hell of a lot of stickers on it, but I still spent countless hours, and even more countless money working on (by myself) the car prior to OLA and even prior to Nats.
I'm not a checkbook mechanic by any means... I would always prefer to do the work that I am capable of myself, but installing a motor in 5 days (while not getting fired from my new job - who were already gracious enough to give me time off for OLA), welding a full custom cage and manufacturing camber plates are a bit more than I am capable of.
Oh yeah....I'm over the car show loss at nats., now the 2nd Place at the SDAC car show still has me fuming.
Not letting 13 year olds be judges. Not sure if this happened or not but heard it from more then one person. The first day of judging was very unorganized. I think they got their act together the next day. All this was mainly do to a last minute drop out by the event coordinator and not picking or assigning someone to replace him. Several people helped out but I think each was waiting for one person to be in put charge and were hesitant to make decisions.

The event coordinator dropped out more than a month ahead of time, and a replacement stepped up. It was short notice, however, and a bit more than the replacement was ready for.
Next year this will not happen.
Pit, what's Christmas like in AZ? It's got to be better than Ct.
Doug, breathe man, or you'll pass out... anyway, the orange car was not a pro car, it was put together by someone who cares more about points than exit speeds. If he competed with you on the roadcourse, he'd have no more reason to complain than you do.
Coy, looking forward to another 2-liter beer with you next year. Sorry about the judging team, like a lot of things, it's easy to commit to something without any idea what you are getting into. Those guys stepped up when everybody else was playing racecar driver or mechanic....
Greg, yellow tape and stakes... sounds like a plan... when should the bikini contest be held? 2006 was fairly estrogen free, time to fix that...
Andy got the job done and that's what is important in the end. Alot of lessons learned and will be handled/delt with for 2007. I will put this out to next year's Car Show Coord...When someone comes to you (that offically part of the team) and ask what can they do PUT THEM TO WORK!!!!!!
Dale, I'm sure you've already added it, we need an internal communication infrastructure for next year!!!! Even if it's a bring your own 2 ways, better than nothing when trying to find someone/information/help.
Hmmm...possibly a new position? Comms/Infrastructure Coordinator I have to some ideas to throw at you...Think Hot Spot..........

I outfitted Dale with a two way this year but it's operation was way to advanced for him. He left it laying all over the place where he last dropped it.
In addition to the stakes and yellow tape, we should get some cheap blank white plastic borad signs (like garage sale ones)and use some markers to make a sign for each area. Tech for AutoX, Tech for drag race road course, Car show judging, SDAC parking, SRt-4 parking , SRT8 parking 10 etc... That will make it very easy for anyone to know where everything is. Also as far as maps and schedules as well as the kicker bag fiasco with freebie scavangers, the grab bag and registration packets and car numbers, must absolutely be done in advance by at least one day. They must be done together as well. That way we can easily control who gets what and Joe doesn't have to pull out any more hair. The buffet line approach at registration was a last minute way to get people through the line in a relatively short amount of time. There was not enough time to do it any other way. If the registraion packets and freebies are done in advance we control what goes to each participant instead of them.
Dale I had more half dressed women show up than anyone else did. In fact you never looked so good driving a golf cart. Bikini Contest check. fflores has to work his local supply of estrogen as well as his fell through this year. And I was looking forward to the twins too. Maybe their 15 minutes of fame has burnt out and they will come next year.

I agree signs will be a MUST for next year.
As for the comms, it's a MUST also. I have a feeling that's going to be my title for 2007.....
Twins...are we thinking of the Twins from NOPI?????? Or did I miss out on something in Topeka???????????????????????????????????????
