Once a year police officers from all over the U.S. and Canada travel to Grattan Raceway in Kent County, Michigan to watch some of Michigan’s finest wring out a group potential patrol cars to see which ones can perform under the pressure. This year the Dodge Charger and Magnum, as well the Chevy Impala and Tahoe are being tested.

The hills and sharp turns of Grattan are more extreme than what the po-po encounter in the real world, but the extreme testing environment quickly separates the true cop cars from the future Animal Control mobile units. The Michigan State Police will publish numbers from the racetrack that show how each car performed in various tests so that law enforcement agencies elsewhere have an objective basis for comparing models.
