Default 1st to 2nd Gear Shift-Throttle Closes

Does anyone know about the 1st to 2nd gear shiting problem? My Magnun throws you forward at the shift into second instead of setting you back in the seat. I can't stand it! It does it with the TCS on or off.

Default TSB(18-031-05) is a good start.

Post from JBS11 on 300cforums:
"The 1-2 issue is caused by a number if different things. Most people have found the fix in the TSB Flash, while some have had sensors and throttle bodies replaced. Mine has the 1-2 issue coupled with a stalling condition. My 'fix' should be throttle body replacement. (Flash did not work... TCM replacement did not work... and now I have the P2138 code which ties to the ETC System... so the throttle body is the next step.)

Some have it... some don't, but regardless a good service department is key with any issue."

The issue comes from the rev limiter kicking in before it tries to shift to 2nd gear.

There is a TSB for any SRT8 built before July. Unfortunately my car was built AFTER July, has the flash from the factory, yet still does it.

Dodge believes this issue is resolved, but it is not, I know of others going through it. Local dealer says a letter writing campaign is the only way to get this fixed.

I only have about 700 mi on mine and it feels like I got off the throttle when it shifts.
The dangerous part is today I passed a truck on a two lane road with no time to delay. When I got next to the truck in 2nd the damn car just shut down!!
With traffic coming at me I slapped it to third and it took off and then shut down again!! I'm not too happy about this!

I'll be at the dealer on my first oppurtunity.

I read where their was a 1st to 2nd problem but not what I experienced!

There are a ton of updates on this from my situation. SRT may end up using my car as a testbed for the issues. Read here for all of the info: http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=25703

Sounds like you were in bump shift mode, if so, car only shifts if you bump to next gear. If you hit rev limiter, it shuts down. No problem with trans.

Fix , shift before you get there.

If I recall it was only at about 4500 in 2nd when it quit and it consistantly quits at 6200 in 1st in manual. I thought it's suppose to go to 6400?

In drive with esp off it shifts at 6000 without hesitation.

I've never had a problem at RMPs that low. Take it out where there is no traffic and play around with it in each gear to see if it reacts the same again.
I know with mine I need to shift as it approaches 5900 to beat banging against the rev limiter.

I'm trying to get a clarification on this issue.

Are we talking about a hesitation from 1st to 2nd in Drive or when your in manual shifting mode?

Is it just 1st to 2nd or at all shift points?

Is this with ESP on, off, half off or totally off when you get it spelled out on the gauge?

I'm asking this because mine had the problem in drive and with the ESP totally off in manual but I'm wondering if I hit the rev limiter even though I wasn't to the red line when I was in manual mode.

Last night in drive with ESP totally off it shifted fine from 1st to second.

I'm going to go play with it today. I'm off!

I have had the 1 to 2 problem in drive but only after the car had shifted into second gear and then I went wot, and it shifted back to first then hit the limiter befor shifting from first to second.

It has done that sporadically, haven't tried it with ESP off.

Manual, as long as I shift as I approach 5900 I don't hit the rev limiter. I think it hits the limiter around 6000 to 6100 but not absolutely sure. Haven't tried it with ESP off.

Let me say this about that.

When I race I sure as hell am not going to be on the manual side of the Transmission!
You never know when that damn rev limiter is going to ruin your day.
I can't believe DM didn't move the limit to at least 6500 or 6600.
Besides I get consistant more RPM in Drive without the rev limiter kicking in.
I get about 6200 in Drive and I'm lucky to get 6000 before it shuts down!
